East High Driver Education Disclosure Statement Classroom Instructor: Mr. Talk On The Road Instructors: Mr. Talk, Mr. Gardiner, and Coach Bullis Class Objective: The focus of this course is to teach students the knowledge and skills necessary to correctly and safely operate a motor vehicle. Our objective is to develop responsible drivers by demanding accountability, honesty and integrity on the road and in the classroom. Following rules and laws are mandatory. Failure to comply with any of the proceeding can lead to denial of your completion slip to obtain a valid driver license. Class requirements: 1. Have a learner permit before taking Driver Education. Students must have a learner permit to participate on the range. Driving instructors cannot drive students on the road if they do not have a learner permit. Students will not get a driver license if they do not have a learner permit. 2. Pay $120.00 fee. Due _____9/4/2015_____________. 3. Complete 27 classroom hours with a passing grade. Attendance: Due to the state requirements for driver education with regard to the mandated 27 classroom hours, students may not miss more than three class periods. If a student misses more than three days (3 class periods), excused or unexcused, he/she will fail the class. Check with Mr. Talk for make up days. 4. Complete 4 hours on the range. 5. Complete and pass (80% or higher) simulators. 6. Complete 3 hours observation and 3 hours driving with an instructor. All driving will be done before school, after school and on Saturdays. If a student Schedules an appointment to drive and does not show, they will be charged a $10.00 fine. The fine must be paid before students are allowed to drive. 7. The driving test can be taken with East High or The Driver License Division (DLD). Discipline: The class requires that you follow the East High Citizenship Policy and includes the following; 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Sexual harassment of any nature will not be tolerated. Students are expected to respect school property. Students are expected to treat their teachers and fellow students with respect. Students are expected to come to class prepared with paper and writing utensil. East High Dress code will be enforced. Students are expected to be on time. 7. No hats will be worn in the classroom. Distractions are the number one cause of auto crashes. Distractions in class and driver education cars will not be tolerated; no cell phones, MP3’s, I Pods, etc. If they are seen they will be confiscated and turned over to the Administration for parents to claim. Course Materials: We will use the Utah State Drivers Handbook and Responsible Driving Text book. Grades will be calculated on all assignments, tests, and quizzes. Students must turn assignments in on time to receive full credit. Late assignments will be assessed a 20% deduction. Grades will be entered into ESIS in a timely manner. Students must pass the final test (80%) to receive their completion slip.
