Began as a civil war between North and South Korea
Turned international when the UN, China and Soviet Union got involved
The United States and the UN supported South Korea and China and the
Soviets supported North Korea

June 25th, 1950- North Korea crossed the 38th parallel into South Korea
North Korea quickly invaded and had
taken control of the capital of Seoul by June 28th
A United Nations (UN) meeting was held over the issue
○ invasion was viewed as communism
endangering the free world
The U.S , along with 15 other nations,
sent in troops to support South Korea

North Korea warned UN armies that crossing the 38th parallel would be

38th parallel, which was used as the border.
● USA aided South Korea by saving them from
communism.
● China aided North Korea and kept them from America.
● Conflict between the USA and China gave Russia an
advantage.

● The Korean Peninsula is still divided
today.
