Dear parishioners,
Since April is only six days away, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very
blessed Holy Week and Easter. As these final days of Lent come upon us again,
we thank God for the many lessons learned anew in the drama of our salvation about to unfold.
In your name I thank those who will make our Easter of 2017 a reality: Church decorators,
Church cleaners, floral arrangers, musicians, the lectors, the altar servers, the ushers, and
the greeters for the liturgies of the Triduum.
On a sad note: Father Robert is not returning to Powell River. Today I am introducing Father Peter Ha to you. Father Peter is a priest of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, who is coming to us after some months at Holy Rosary Cathedral. He speaks English, French and Vietnamese. Fr Peter has a priest uncle who serves in France. It will be great to have his help
until July, when the clergy moves take effect.
The celebration of Easter helps us consider our own personal situation in relation to the way
society is going. Do I "go with the flow", or do I stand up to the false ideas and attitudes
that frequently come across my path? By our profession of faith, you and I are invited to a
deep personal connection with the Lord who suffers, is crucified, and who then rises. Ultimately, we find our true identity in our personal, intimate connection with Christ. By contrast, in the internet world, things are faceless and impersonal. Crimes such as cyber bullying or identity theft occur without the victim even knowing the true identity of the perpetrator .
Pope Benedict XVI wrote: "Judas is neither a master of evil nor the figure of a demoniacal
power of darkness but rather a sycophant who bows down before the anonymous power of
changing moods and current fashion. But it is precisely the anonymous power that crucified
Jesus, for it was anonymous voices that cried, "Away with him! Crucify him!"
May you and I always resist the pull of the anonymous voices, who seek to undermine the
influence of our Catholic faith in modern society. May we be strong when the changing
moods and current fashions would lead us astray.
At the time of writing, the process of choosing a new Principal for our Parish school is to
happen in the immediate future. May God bless all of those involved in that selection, and
may the Holy Spirit shed his light and power upon the hiring committee. I thank our outgoing Principal, Mrs. Mimi Richardson, who will be retiring this June. Her calm, warm
presence will be missed.
God bless you all in these sacred days: Resurrexit sicut dixit.
Fr Patrick Tepoorten, Pastor

Stewardship Reflections
Fourth Sunday of Lent March 26th, 2017
Stewardship is a call to collaborate with God. In baptism we are anointed
and called. We are called to be a light, as St. Paul says in today’s second
reading, “Live as children of the light”. How is God calling you? What are
the gifts He has given you to respond to this call? Spending some quiet
time in prayer with God each day is the best way to discern His plan and
purpose for our lives. Each of us can be a light in our own unique way.
Finding that way in the busyness of life requires that we be good stewards of
our time and make time to hear God’s voice. God always provides what we
need to be a light, provided we do our part and are good stewards of the
gifts He has given us to be that light.
