Jodi Elkins Letter of Introduction

April 9, 2014
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are very pleased to announce that we have hired Jodi Elkins as Principal for Elizabeth
Middle School, to follow Terry Miller who was hired as an Interim Principal for one year.
The recommendation to hire Jodi was approved by the Board of Education in a Special
Meeting held yesterday.
The job opening was publically posted in late January, and the district received a total of 46
applications. The applications went through a paper screening process, with the most
promising candidates being invited for a rigorous interview process with a committee of
teachers, staff and parents, with an additional finalist interview with a group of students.
Jodi is thrilled to be joining Elizabeth School District and will start getting acquainted with
students, staff and parents almost immediately. She is participating in the 5th Grade
Students to EMS Orientation during school today and the 5th Grade Parent Night this
evening. Jodi understands the importance of this transition for students and parents and
wants to be directly involved.
Jodi’s background and experience is ideal for this position. She has over 20 years
experience at the middle school level, as a teacher, counselor and administrator. She spent
the early part of her career here at Elizabeth Middle School as a teacher and counselor.
Over the last decade, she worked for Douglas County Schools and Littleton Public Schools
in counseling and administrative positions. Most recently, she has served for seven years
as Assistant Principal at Euclid Middle School in Littleton, where she has done an
outstanding job.
Jodi received her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Education from the University of
Phoenix, was awarded a Vocational Credential in Business and Marketing Education from
Colorado State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
and Marketing from the University of Northern Colorado. Jodi completed her teaching
certification in Business and Marketing at Metro State College in Denver. She has received
various awards and recognition for her work, and is active in state level professional
organizations. In 2001, Jodi received the School Counselor of the Year award for the state,
by the Colorado School Counselor Association.
Please join us in welcoming Jodi to the district and Elizabeth Middle School.
Sincerely yours,
Douglas Bissonette
Superintendent
