Our Fab Musicians!
Andy Poxon Band: A seventeen-year old wunderkind
blues guitarist who sings and writes his own songs as well, Andy
was recently nominated by the Washington Area Music
Association for three awards: Best Blues Recording, Best New
Artist of the Year, and Best Debut Recording. Did we mention
he's ONLY SEVENTEEN!!! www.andypoxon.com
Beach Project: Local coffeehouse favorites have
graciously consented to open the Fest. Look for a subtle but
captivating mix of folk, Americana, and some of the bluesier
Dylan tunes.
Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun:
Bill is best known for
his work in the seminal rock 'n' roll honky-tonk band Commander
Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. Since the band's demise in
1976, Kirchen has released eight critically acclaimed albums and
come to be recognized as one of the world's finest guitarists. Bill
would perhaps add, in his typical modest, self-effacing way, that
he's just as proud for being honored for helping to keep alive the
work of music pioneers like Gene Vincent, Link Wray and Dave
Dudley. www.billkirchen.com
Dave Moore and his Hillbilly Huxters: Here is one of
the few bands in the United States delivering high energy,
authentic roots rockabilly, the way it was played fifty years ago!
Dave Moore is an authentic West Virginia Hillbilly. He grew up
on this music and has never played, nor does he know anything
but, real hillbilly-based rockabilly music. Dave plays fourteen
instruments and is known internationally as one of America’s
best rockabilly guitarists. A twenty-year veteran of the roots
music scene, he is backed by Mean Matt Todd on dog house
bass and Strawback Slim on drums. www.wildharerecords.com
Derailers: Their music celebrates the legacies of Buck
Owens, George Jones, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Charlie Rich
and the Beatles, while still being on the edge of today’s country
music. Challenged by their fans to create a sound that mirrors
the shuffle of happy boots on a hardwood floor, the Derailers
have fed the hungry dancehall crowds with their classic country
beats and a 60s pop sensibility. Fans continue to show their
appreciation and admiration with requests for encores long after
the last drink has been served. www.derailers.com
Eli Cook: Eli Cook grew up on the blues: Muddy Waters,
John Lee Hooker, the Wolf, Lightnin‘ Hopkins, and Mississippi
John Hurt. He first picked up the guitar when he was fourteen
and began his own performance career playing vintage blues,
gospel shows, and revivals in Nelson County, Virginia when he
was fifteen. Today, at twenty-four, Eli performs nationally having
opened for Johnny Winter, B.B. King and Shemekia Copeland to
name a few. www.elicook.com
Fiddlin' Big Al Chidester:
The last of a vanishing breed
- the traveling troubadour bringing songs of peace, freedom, and
political hypocrisy a la Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. Look
for him on KRFP Radio Free Moscow 92.5 FM where he dj's and
hosts a talk show. www.myspace.com/Fiddlin Big Al

Franc Robert:
OAR’s mission is to apply research to the challenges of
autism. OAR funds applied research. Applied research is
the practical research that examines issues and challenges
that children and adults with autism and their families face
everyday. Some areas of research include education,
communication, self-care, social skills, employment,
behavior, and adult and community living. OAR distributes
information about research and evidence-based resources to
members of the autism community. OAR’s publications, Life
Journey through Autism, include information for parents,
educators, service providers, and military families impacted
by autism. OAR was started in 2001 by parents and
grandparents of individuals with autism.

A native Montrealer, Franc started playing in
various bands throughout the 80s, hosting the popular jam at the
famous Rising Sun Nightclub in Montreal, where he learned at
the feet of many blues greats, including Buddy Guy, Albert
Collins and Robert Cray. Moving to Florida in 1990, he played
with such notable blues acts as Crawdaddy Blues, Nuthin But
Trouble, Back Alley Blues Band and Delta Aces. Franc is
currently fronting his own band, the Boxcar Tourists, who
support him on the new album 49x61 and at the Fest.

J.P. McDermott and Western Bop:
A hard-working
rockabilly band located in the Washington DC area. specializing
in the music of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Hank
Williams, the very early Beatles, and original tunes. Their
recordings have received critical acclaim, and J.P. has been
named country vocalist of the year on numerous occasions by
the Washington Area Music Association (Wammies).

Johnny Winter: Texas guitar tradition runs deep. A gutsy
school of blues playing, marked by thick tones, aggressive
attack and tons of technique, all delivered in a flamboyant,
swaggering style that is endemic to the Lone Star State. From
T-Bone Walker and Clarence Gatemouth Brown on through
Albert Collins and Freddie King, Billy Gibbons and the late
Stevie Ray Vaughan, the tradition of the Texas guitar slinger has
lived on. The one name that ranks at the top of that exclusive list
is Johnny Winter, an international ambassador for rocking Texas
blues and still going strong! www.johnnywinter.net
Jenny Langer Poppen and Moonshine Society:
Aka Black Betty has garnered world-wide renown for her
vocalizing with her band The Moonshine Society. Ms. Poppen
has placed her unique stamp on over two hundred recordings to
date and has performed around the world with the Moonshine
Society, including a most exotic decamping as the feature act at
the House of Blues and Jazz in Shanghai, China. The Boston
Herald hailed her band ‘s original stylings as "modern blues that
grabs your soul and rocks it.“ www.moonshinesociety.com
Jumpin’ Jupiter:
Long hailed by many as one of Virginia's
premiere rockabilly outfits, JJ unleashes some of the most
powerful and energetic performances ever seen on the East
Coast! Whether playing at a backyard bar-b-que or with a
national act in a great big fancy club, these stripped-down,
psychobilly cowpunks have found a home here on Earth. A
home in the hearts of all of those folks out there who haven't
forgotten how much fun good ol' American music is, even when
you're not paying attention! www.rockabillyhall.com
Ubangis:
Rawk-n-roll from the suburbs of Maryland! A
steamy slew of surf, r&b and punk, these eternal teenage cavestompers recently celebrated their twenty-year anniversary!
UNGAWA!! www.ubangis.com
