The ViSalus Founders grew up in the age of
social media—from the early days of instant
messaging to social networking sites, such
as Friendster and MySpace. What sets
them apart from the rest of their generation,
however, is that they figured out ways to best
leverage social media. They knew how to
optimize and position it, creating a platform
on which to advance Vi’s mission—a simple
concept that people would feel compelled to
share with everyone they knew. Hence, the
Body by Vi Challenge™ was born.

What is
THE CHALLENGE LIFESTYLE?
It's not just about 90 days; it's about 90 days at a time.

As you read through the pages that follow,
you’ll learn the stories of people who achieved
far more than they’d ever imagined with
regards to their health and fitness. However,
it didn’t always begin that way.
THE EVOLUTION OF A LIFESTYLE
Take Sam’s story, for example. After learning
about the Body by Vi Challenge™ through a
friend, he had made the decision to lose 15
lbs., which would get him back to his weight
when he was in his 20s.
Sam went public with his goal, got support
from his family and friends as well as the Vi
Community, and lost his first 10 lbs. with
PROJECT 10™. Inspired by reaching his first
milestone, and knowing that he could help
a child through PROJECT 10™ Kids, he went
on to lose over 20 lbs. by the end of his
90-Day Challenge. He gained newfound
confidence, motivation, and most of all…
validation. He liked what he saw in the mirror
and was determined to keep it going.
Losing the weight was just enough to get him
serious about his health again. He quit fast
food and soda, and started eating fresh, whole
foods and lean meats—all while supplementing
his diet with Vi-Shape® Shakes, Vi Crunch™
and other Vi™ products.
Soon he was thinking about his next goal. He
had already gotten down to his ideal weight,
but now he felt he needed a bigger Challenge—
an active Challenge goal. Sam was always
curious about the themed races taking place

a half marathon.

HULK HOGAN
From Facing Off in the
Ring to Fighting Weight

Some knew him as the Super Destroyer. Others knew him as
Sterling Golden. Many of his rivals feared him as The Immortal
One. Worldwide, he was considered the most famous pro wrestler
of all time. But what few people know about Hulk Hogan is that he
struggled with his weight since childhood. Behind the muscles, the
gargantuan stature, the indestructible character with superhuman
strength is Terry Bollea, who as a child dealt with all the challenges
of being overweight, and fought as an adult to overcome them.
In an exclusive interview, Hulk shared with us his weight
issues from his pre- to post-wrestling days. Even he, who at the
pinnacle of his career was the picture of health and fitness,
had to get back in shape and learn how to train around his injuries
after more than 30 years of wrestling. He also learned that it is never
too late in the game to challenge yourself and transform your health.

His First Approach to Weight Loss
Discovering the Body by Vi Challenge™
“Right before 11th grade, I discovered the
opposite sex, and the initial thing I did to lose
weight was basically quit eating,” Hulk said. He
lost the bulk of his weight living off of diet soda
and cheese peanut butter crackers for about
a year. “That was my original attempt to lose
weight to get a girlfriend,” he admitted.
Hulk was hooked on the Vi products before he
even knew about the Body by Vi Challenge.
Once he did, he inquired about Vi and they
playfully called him out: “It’s like, ‘Hey, what are
you made of? You say you’re Hulk Hogan, but
what are you really made of?’”
Over the years, his mentality had changed,
and he reeducated himself on proper nutrition
and healthy eating. However, even during his
early wrestling career, health was not his No.
1 priority. “My mindset was to be big and over
300 lbs.,” Hulk explained. “I thought it was OK
to have big arms and a big belly because I was
a wrestler.”
Suddenly the realization hit him. “It was like
me calling myself out,” Hulk said. “You say
you’re this athlete. You say you’re ahead of the
curve. But can you achieve your Challenge
goal without letting yourself down?” This is
the way Hulk looked at it. “It was my mental
interpretation of what this Challenge was,”
he said. “It was for me to see if I really could
depend on myself. So that’s why it worked for
me. It was a test—I had to test myself.”
Adapting to Injuries and Post Wrestling
“I had encountered a bunch of challenges
when my wrestling career had ended because
I wasn’t the same—my body had been pretty
much beat up,” Hulk said. Throughout his
career, he suffered a string of injuries that
required nine back surgeries as well as two hip
and two knee replacements.
Post wrestling, Hulk found that he now gained
weight easily, and that his stomach—the extra
bulge—just didn’t disappear. “I had to really
readjust my thinking and be consistent,” he
said. “I had to rededicate myself to myself, and
figure out how much respect I really had for my
body.” Hulk realized that it basically came down
to “being more honest and more consistent with
light exercise, training around injuries, and by
always plugging into Vi™ meal replacements to
keep the bulge off.”
His First Introduction to Vi
Hulk first learned about Vi through his niece
who insisted that he try the Vi-Shape® Shake.
He couldn’t believe its taste and its benefits.
“There’s no way that something that tasted that
good could actually be good for you,” he said.
“And when I read the nutritional facts on it, I
was amazed.”
His Challenge Kit of choice is the Fit Kit, giving

energy drinks to power his workouts. Now Hulk
craves the shake and can’t get enough of it.

We sensed the profound appreciation and

have really made it possible to be who you’re
meant to be. It’s because of the technology and
these three young guys who have worked so
hard to give us a healthier alternative to dieting
and starving our bodies.... With The Challenge,

How the Body by Vi Challenge Has
Impacted Hulk’s Life
At 60 years young, Hulk is feeling better than
ever. By the end of his 90-Day Challenge, he
got his “12-pack back” and lost 2% body fat,
down from 13%. “Losing the weight took a lot of
stress off my joints,” he said. Now, the first thing
he does in the morning is drink a Vi-Shape
Shake instead of eating eggs, toast and fruit. “I
find I can get my body kicked into high gear in
the morning and I kind of run on that,” he said.
His Advice to Others Looking to
Get Back on Track
As someone who sustained a long list of
injuries from his career—including broken
fingers, 13 broken noses, having his teeth
knocked out six times, and losing vision in
one eye—Hulk is not one to tolerate excuses.
His advice to those who want to lose weight,
and also to former athletes and fitness
enthusiasts who say they’re past their prime,
is to “dedicate yourself to eating healthy… to
doing minimal exercises just to get started—
just to get the blood flowing.”
Hulk also said that between ViSalus ® GO

explained, “and that should be enough of an
incentive to know that you’ve got some rocket

Hulk Hogan Calls Out Obesity
With the Vi mission of Taking Weight Off the
World™, we asked Hulk what his wrestling name
or character would be if he had to fight weight
in the ring. He said it’s just like the question
he’s been asking for 35 years…

mania runs wild on you?”
Obesity had better watch its back.
Hulk is not only a former athlete, but he is also an
entrepreneur and philanthropist. His latest venture is
called Hostamania, a web-hosting business that gives
people a variety of choices as to how they want their
sites handled. Additionally, he has partnered with his
friend, Steve Chamberland, who founded 50 Legs—a
non-profi t organization that provides prosthetic legs
to children who have lost limbs due to birth defects
or accidents.

TO GLOBAL MOVEMENT
Not long after the Body by Vi
Challenge™ began transforming
lives across the USA, Vi™ was ready
to take its first step to impact the
health of millions around the world.
The ViSalus Founders first set their sights
on Canada, their gateway to Vi’s global
expansion. In September 2011, at the Canada
country launch event in Toronto, over 2,500
founding Promoters cheered The Challenge’s
move to the north. “We know the last three
years were just a warm-up for what is in store
for Canadians. As we continue to promote
The Challenge, impacting people’s lives
physically and financially, the opportunities
are endless,” said 1-Star Ambassadors Ryan
and Karyn Millar.
All the while, Vi had also focused on Canada’s
French-Canadian population around the
Quebec market, making special efforts to
engage the province’s predominantly Frenchspeaking population and celebrate key
leaders who paved the way for the years of
success to come.
Fast-forward, less than a year later, to July
2012, when the focus expanded to include
the Latino market, comprising over 50 million

people in the USA alone.1 With alarmingly high
rates of Latino adults and children struggling
with their health, the Founders knew it was
time to reach out to this vital demographic.
From one Latino Challenge Party Tour to
another, thousands gathered in attendance to
learn more about the Body by Vi Challenge.
By July 2013, the Latino Market was officially
launched at Vitality—Vi’s international
celebration of Life, Health and Prosperity.
Meanwhile, a new opportunity arose to serve
the United Kingdom, a community that was in
need of a vehicle like The Challenge for those
seeking weight-loss and fitness results. In
June 2013, they made history with the UK
Pre-Launch Event, a defining moment as it
marked Vi as a truly international company
with offices across the Atlantic.
This was the beginning of a new chapter,
in which Vi kicked its mission of Taking
Weight Off the World™ into high gear. The
UK market, like those before it, has embraced
The Challenge and offers a tremendous
opportunity for those looking to get on the
road to better health and financial freedom
as Challenge Promoters.
