English to/from Spanish Translation Request for Proposal 1. Overview The ACLU Foundation of Virginia occasionally requires assistance with translation between English and Spanish for its work to defend and advance civil liberties and civil rights in the Commonwealth. Our work includes litigation, public education, and advocacy. We may need assistance with translation of live phone calls, recorded messages and videos, printed materials, or in-person conversations. 2. Scope of Work The ACLU Foundation of Virginia would like to develop an ongoing relationship with a translator or translation service company to assist us in a variety of capacities. The content/conversations may include legal documents and/or language that will require the ability to accurately translate legal terminology. While Spanish is the primary language of interest, the ability to translate other languages is also appreciated. Aside from the translation for our legal work, including sensitive attorney-client privileged communications, we may need assistance translating content for our website, infographics, and other printed publications for our public education and advocacy work. 3. Experience The ACLU of Virginia is seeking an experienced professional with the following: Professional ability to translate oral communications and documents between English and Spanish, especially legal documents. Willingness to undergo basic training in legal ethics and client confidentiality required. Experience handling confidential or sensitive material preferred. Certification by the Virginia Supreme Court strongly preferred. American Translators Association certified interpreters also considered. 4. Proposal Requirements Proposals should include the following: Narrative description of your organization/firm, including years in business and relevant services offered; Examples of materials that you have translated, or description of verbal translation services performed; A proposal regarding the cost of the services to be provided by type (e.g., cost per page of document, cost per hour of verbal translation, cost per words). Proposers are encouraged to consider whether some or all of the usual cost of services might be discounted or provided pro bono to the ACLU Foundation of Virginia which is a 501c3 organization.
