Training Programme on
CONCRETE MIX PROPORTION – IS: 10262 THEORY & PRACTICAL’S
A one day training program was conducted jointly by ICI and Ultratech cement on 21 January,
2016 for the students. The workshop started at 10.00 am with the welcome speech by
Prof. Dr. Anitha G. Pillai, HOD, Civil Engineering Department. She gave a brief idea about the
workshop. 46 students of 3rd year Civil Engineering along with two faculty members from the
Department attended the workshop.
The forenoon session included a discussion on introduction to Concrete Mix Design
handled by Er. M. A Joseph. The main topics of discussion were ingredients and properties of
concrete and importance of these properties in mix design. The principles of mix design were
discussed in detail and mix design procedure for M35 grade concrete was done as per
IS: 10262-2009. The students were divided into groups and assigned different tasks.
The afternoon session started at 1.30 pm after the lunch break. The students were divided into
groups and assigned various tasks. Using the calculated amount of materials, the mix was
prepared under the guidance of technical officers Mr. Rabish and Mr. Ranjith from the Ultratech
cements. Six cubes were casted and left for initial setting.
After the practical session, certificates were awarded to all the students. The one day
training programme and the hands on session which followed was very informative and it was a
good experience for all the students.
