Diane Brown said the invocation and Rual Perkins had a joke for us. Rual also got his ticket drawn, but drawing the Jack of heart s left a pot of $2078. Cards are down to about a dozen now and the pot should be in the hands of a winner soon. Program chairman Steve Butcher introduced Lou Profera, Co-owner and VP sales and Marketing of Kennedy's Sausage Company. Lou was a third generation beef and dairy businessman having worked in all aspects of the meat business including slaughter, boning, sales and new product development. By the age of 16 he was regarded as one of the best hook and knife butchers in Philadelphia. He taught meat science and large animal science at Penn State, managed six beef processing plants abroad, and has worked for Dole, Del Monte, Chiquita, Swift, Campbell Soup, Burger King and American Foodservice Corp. He and his partners recently purchased Kennedy's Sausage located in Parker County. The first year showed a loss and most recently grossed $5 M. He did this by incorporating sound business principles, providing quality products the customer wants and innovative marketing. Their new plant, located at Highway 281 S. and IH20 will be located in Palo Pinto County and employ up to 75 people. Welcome Lou and company!! Definition of Rotary by Rual Perkins file:///C|/Users/dsteele/Desktop/Rotary%20Club%20of%20Mineral%20Wells%20-%20eBulletin.htm[01/25/2011 4:42:52 PM] Rotary Club of Mineral Wells - eBulletin How do you describe the organization called "Rotary"? There are so many characteristics of a Rotary club as well as the activities of more than a million Rotarians. There are the features of service, internationality, fellowship, classifications of each vocation, development of goodwill and world understanding, the emphasis of high ethical standards, concern for other people, and many more. In 1976, the Rotary International Board of Directors was interested in creating a concise definition of the fundamental aspects of Rotary. They turned to the three men who were then serving on RI's Public Relations Committee and requested that a one-sentence definition of Rotary be prepared. After numerous drafts, the committee presented this definition, which has been used ever since in various Rotary Publications: "Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world." Those 31 words are worth remembering when someone asks, "What is a Rotary club?" 4 Way Speech Contest by Steele, Dan Our 4 Way Speech Contest has been scheduled for 7:00 pm, February 17, in the City Council Chambers. Beth Watson and her committee have found a date that does not conflict with UIL and other events the high school students are involved in. All Rotarians are encouraged to come listen to the speeches which will take less than an hour. The winner of the contest wins a $1,000 scholarship.
