Flame Retardants Product Guide Chemtura. Value is our strongest additive.™ 2 Chemtura Corporation: A world leader in flame retardants. Contents Introduction Flame retardants selection guide Technical data: Bromine-based flame retardants Technical data: Phosphorus-based flame retardants Technical data: Antimony, synergists & smoke suppressants 3 4 6 10 12 13 In 2005, Crompton and Great Lakes Chemical Corporation combined to form Chemtura; a world leader in flame retardants and the world’s largest producer of plastics additives, with a portfolio of over 4000 products. Flame retardants is our business Chemtura offers one of the world’s most comprehensive flame retardant portfolios, supported by a global network of sales and technical support. Our products include bromine-, phosphorus-, and antimony-based flame retardants, other synergists and smoke suppressants, and as a leading producer we maintain an aggressive commitment to technological innovation and product development. 4 Flame retardants – Saving lives Fire kills approximately 4000 people per year in the US and over 5000 people per year in Europe. Countless others are spared every year by fires that are slowed or never start due to the presence of flame retardants. Chemtura is a leading supplier of flame retardant products used in a variety of applications such as furniture foam, electronic components, enclosures and building products. Chemtura believes the public should not be forced to choose between environmental and fire safety... we must have both. To ensure we offer only those products meeting the highest of environmental and fire safety standards to our customers, our company has adopted a “greener is better” philosophy for our business and our flame retardant products. Giving you more choices Demanding applications, increasingly tougher safety standards, and the need for economically and ecologically balanced solutions makes your choice of flame retardants more complex than ever before. Chemtura offers a broad range of flame retardant chemistry that allows OEM’s the versatility to devise sustainable solutions to meet their needs. Bromine-based flame retardants Chemtura’s brominated flame retardants have a long history of providing outstanding flame retardant protection. They are used in a wide variety of applications from electronic housings, to printed wire boards and electrical connectors to flexible and rigid polyurethane foam. Brominated flame retardants provide optimal processing while maintaining outstanding physical properties in a cost effective manner. Phosphorus-based flame retardants Phosphorus flame retardants are a popular choice for electronic housing applications where improved UV stability is a key criterion. Chemtura’s Reofos® phosphorus flame retardants are used extensively in a wide variety of applications. In addition to providing outstanding flame retardant protection, they also facilitate plasticizing properties providing additional value when formulating flame retarded PVC materials. Antimony, synergists & smoke suppressants Antimony trioxide is used as a synergist in many polymers when combined with brominated flame retardants and can be used alone as a flame retardant in PVC. Our antimony-based synergists are used in polymers, paint, textiles, polyesters, coatings, elastomers, and rubber. Choose from solutions based on antimony trioxide, sodium antimonate, and antimony synergists available in low dust, dust free, wetted and concentrate forms. Zinc borate is an effective synergist for a number of polymer systems. Chemtura offers other synergists and smoke suppressants designed to meet demanding flame retardancy and smoke evolution requirements. 5 Flame Retardants Selection Guide UPE os h ets ret erm lyu act Imp re ysty Pol le lyo fin) ane eth IR) TPU yur R/P Pol (PU ible ne Flex tha ure oly id P e R ig an Th Po igh c Po EPS nd) Ble BS nds XPS Ble e/A PS nat /HI rbo PPE lyca (Po BS ne) A PC/ ABS S (H HIP S FIN IC S STYREN PVC py pro M asti EPD opl er m ( Th TPO ene hyl yet Pol e len y Pol POLYOLE l Recommended w Suitable Bromine-based Flame Retardants PDBS-80™ l w w Firemaster® CP-44HF Firemaster® PBS-64 HW l l PHT-4™ † PHT4-Diol™ † l DP-45™ w l BA-59P™ w l l PE-68™ l l Firemaster® BZ-54 * w w Firemaster® BZ-54 HP * w w Firemaster® 550 * w Firemaster® 552 * Firemaster® 600 * w Firemaster® 602 * BE-51™ l w l l CD-75P™ SP-75™ w l w l l BC-52™ l l BC-58™ DE-83R™ l l l l l l w Firemaster® 2100 l l l l l l PH-73FF™ † PHE-65™ l FF-680™ l l l 6 ne eri ng Th e) nat rbo lyca (Po PC PET 6 PBT A HTP 6 PA 6 PA ngi E ics nol Phe er) est oly xy dP Epo rate satu (Un erm op lastics l l w w l w l l w l w w l w w w w l w l l w l l l l l l l w l w w l l l w l l l l l w w l w l l l l w l l l l w w * These products are not registered for sale in Europe † This is a reactive flame retardant that is used during the polymerization process l 7 Flame Retardants Selection Guide Th er lyu ret h act Imp re ysty Pol fin) ane reth TPU u IR ) y R /P Pol (PU ible ne Flex tha ure oly id P e R ig an Po igh EPS nd) Ble XPS nds BS Ble e/A PS nat /HI rbo PPE lyca (Po BS ne) A PC/ ABS S (H HI P FIN IC S STYREN VC P le lyo c Po M asti EPD opl er m ( Th TPO ene hyl yet Pol e len opy ypr Pol S POLYOLE l Recommended w Suitable Phosphorus-based Flame Retardants Reogard® 2000 l Reofos® 35 l Reofos® 50 l Reofos® 65 l Reofos® 95 w l Kronitex® CDP l Kronitex® TCP l Kronitex® TXP l Reofos® RDP l l l Reofos® BAPP l l l Reofos® NHP Antimony-based Synergists Timonox® / TMS® w w w w Fireshield® H / Thermoguard® S w w w w Trutint® / Fireshield® L / Thermoguard® L w w Fireshield® LP w w Microfine® / Ultrafine® l l l l Thermoguard® FR Pyrobloc® SAP w w w w w w w w w w l l l l l l l w w Zinc Borate 223 Zinc Borate 467/Lite w w w w Smokebloc® / BFR Ongard® 2 Oncor® 75RA Fireshield LSFR® Thermoguard® CPA l l w l l l l l Other Synergists / Smoke Suppressants 8 ing Th erm op ter) yes Pol e) nat rbo lyca (Po PC PET PBT 6 A HTP 6 PA eer ets d rate satu os s olic gin 6 PA En n Phe (U n xy Epo UPE rm lastics l l l l l l w l l w l w w w l w w w w w w w w l l l l l l l l l l w w w w w w w w l l l l l l l l w w l w w l l w w l w w l l l l l l l w w w l w w w w w w w w w l w w l l w w w w * These products are not registered for sale in Europe w † This is a reactive flame retardant that is used during the polymerization process 9 Bromine-based Flame Retardants Viscosity/ Melting Range °C Volatility TGA,Wt.
