CONCEPT
The present Peasant Communities maintains a social organization and practices of solidarity
work that allowed the technical and productive size of Andean culture along its entire history.
Understanding behind this unity, diversity and uniqueness of each culture and Andean
civilization.
This trip will allow you to discover the natural diversity of its territory through different
ecosystems and ecological zones you will pass through the Andean valleys, the Andean highlands
and the high jungle.
You will approach different communities, descendant of pre-Hispanic civilizations and ancestral
knowledge that have survived the Spanish colonization and the increasing globalization. The
driver of this immersion in Peruvian culture is the discovering and sharing of living traditions of
the different cultures that inhabited this beautiful country.
Peru is considered mega-diverse at the ecological level. It represents more than 10% of the
total biodiversity of the planet. Finally we will share unforgettable moments with our guests in
the rural communities, we will discover their lifestyle, their ancestral activity and adaptation
to today's world.

ITINERARY
Day 1 : THE GARDEN OF THE HIGH JUNGLE

Departure at 04h00 am from Ollantaytambo. Road towards Huayopata.
The road will climb to reach the Malaga Pass (Highest point at 4330 m).
•
Breakfast in Alfamayo (2300m) where we will visit the plantations of yacon, granadilla….
The yacon is a tuberous plant native from Peru, with a sweet taste and an important
functional food for diabetics. It is a close relative of the sunflower and Jerusalem
artichoke. This visit will allow us to discover an indigenous Andean product and
understand better the Agronomy depending of the different ecosystems and ecological
levels.

At around 10h00 am we will continue our road towards Huayopata. On the way, we will
discover plantations of Yuca, Sacha inchi and Te (1650 m).
We will enter an area of tropical climate at about 1400 meters above sea level. The
vegetation will be more abundant during the descent.
Arrival at 11h30 am at Huayopata (1300 m) where we will have lunch.
Then we will visit a coffee, cacao and fruit trees plantation.

the cup of coffee and cacao, and also different fruits.

Day 2 : « THE ROAD OF THE COCOA »

Early breakfast
Departure towards Maranura. We will go and visit small local producers of Cacao.
We will visit a cocoa plantation. Our hosts farmers will present the "cacao" tree and its
fruits; the cocoa. There are several varieties of Cocoa. Our local guides will present the
production process of Cocoa; from the harvest of cocoa to the ground through
fermentation and drying. Finally, we will have the opportunity to prepare together a hot
chocolate and of course taste it!

Free time and then, return to Ollantaytambo and Cusco
Possibility from Ollantaytambo to take the train to reach Aguas calientes
