Garden Club April Minutes
Presidents Welcome
President Anita Clark opened the 256th meeting of the
Sea Trail Garden Club. She thanked everyone for
allowing her the opportunity to help the Garden Club
grow in the following two years.
The Pledge of Allegiance was observed.
Joan Lockhart introduced one guest Deb, a long time
friend of Linda Anthony.
Anita acknowledged the past presidents,
committee chairs and those who had been charter
members of the Garden Club.
Outgoing president Kaye Evans received a plaque for
her service, diligence and compassion during her two
year term of office. She was also presented with a gift of
a turtle sculpture as a thank you from the members.
Anita announced the 2014-2016 club slogan -"Planting
Joy, Reaping Smiles", then introduced the speaker for
the April meeting. Teacher, and jewelry designer Judy
DiVita showed several pieces she had designed by using
beads, broaches etc.
Vice Presidents Message: Linda Anthony read an
inspirational message concerning tipping points in our
lives.
Secretary’s Report: Cheryl Schutt read the February
minutes, which were approved. Michelle Lupien of the
Sea Trail Grandmas’ Club thanked the club for its
generous grant.
Treasurers Report: Ellen Lehrer presented the
treasurers report. There is a current balance as of April
8 of $18,073.09. The report was filed.
Copies of the budget for 2014/2015 were distributed to
the members and reviewed by the President. A motion
was made and seconded to approve the new budget.
Parliamentarian: Barbara Hauver was introduced. She
had no report.
Committee Reports:
 Membership: 59 members and 1 guest present.
 Hospitality: No report
 Outreach: Sue Shoveling stated that the April
outreach was to collect money to buy mulch etc. for
the Shallotte Middle School’s courtyard garden. $63
was collected. Peg Jones also requested volunteers
to help spread the mulch. May’s outreach will be
to collect baby items for BFA.




Sunshine: no report.
Historian: Alice Stovin, no report.
Publicity: Pat Gambarelli, no report
Landscaping: Paula Currivan reports that both the
Pink Palace and the MAC had been completed, The
flowers looked good.
 Garden Tips: Mary Couch was not present, but a
blast email would be coming shortly.
 Garden Club on the Go: Jo Ann Abrams announced
that she and Janine Coakley were planning a trip to
Arlie Gardens. She described the attractions. The
trip will be on May 20th and the cost will be $9 for
the garden and $11 for the trolley ride. Checks
should be made out to the Garden Club and
dropped off at JoAnn Abrams or Janine Coakley's.
 Granny's Closet: No report.
 Chaplin: Elaine Poston. No Report
 Charities: No Report
 Cookbook: Mary Lou Miller has cookbooks to sell.
Still $10.
 Broadcast Announcements: Pat Sutton suggested
that in the future, we change the name of the
Chinese Auction to a Tricky Tray.
 Scholarship: Linda Anthony reported on
scholarship under New Business.
Unfinished Business:
Joan Lockhart reported on the Fashion Show. There
were 400 persons seated, 11 wine servers attending the
tables, and Anita Clark had very nicely lent her sound
system . Joan thanked all who helped make the Fashion
Show a success.
New Business:
Linda Anthony had contacted the Brunswick High
School to request applications for a Garden Club
scholarship. The students will be encouraged to write
essays entitled "Bloom Where You Are Planted". There
will be a June reception for the winners.

Make It Bake It will be November 11, 2014
Fashion Show March 10, 2015
The Garden Club program for May will be presented by
the Old Bridge Preservation Society. May's Program will
be about the 150th Anniversary of the Vesta, a
Confederate Blocklade Runner that sunk off the pier at
Sunset Beach. They will also be describing the summer
programs they have scheduled.
Brag Bag Announcements:
Jo Ann Abram's granddaughter was a little mermaid in
her school play.
Dian Robbins got to spend a whole day with her 4 yr.
old granddaughter in Disney World.
Announcements for the Good of the Order
Ellen Lehrer is selling Purple Bows. They can be
purchased from her.
Paula Currivan announced that there will be a run held
for Girls on the Run.
Kate Goodrich explained this year's Relay for Life. It will
be held May 2nd behind Brunswick High School. There
will be a tent selling subs made by Lucy Imondi. The
Relay begins at 6pm. Cancer survivors and teams will be
walking the track. The lighting of the luminaries will be
at 9. The team will walk until midnight. If anyone would
like to join the team to walk, the cost is $10
Hanneke Nagelkerke announced that "The Big Bob's
Buddies" will be walking in the Wilmington ALS Walk
to Cure ALS on Saturday, April 26 at 9:30 AM on the
NCW Campus in Wilmington. Everyone is welcome to
join us.
Coastal Garden Club will be having a plant sale on Fri.
April 25th.
The Sea Trail Strollers and Songbirds will be in concert
on Sat ., April 12th at the Pink Palace.
Pat Gooding won lunch with the Prez.
Judy Krieger won the 50/50
