Kyiv is 1,5 millennial city-legend. Based on the slopes of one of the
major waterways of Eastern Europe – the Dnipro river, the city was
the beginning of Slavic civilization – Kyivan Rus. Now it is the capital
of Ukraine with a population of 2.8 million people.

Kyiv is often called «a green city» and it is difficult to take no notice

Kyiv is the birthplace of the Ruthenian Orthodox Church and the center
of Christian pilgrimage. The patron of the city is considered to be
Archangel Michael. Maybe it is the reason why the city passed through
two world wars and preserved its unique architectural complexes. It is
only in Kyiv you can visit more than 1,000 churches, monasteries and
other sacred sites, some of which are included into the UNESCO World
Heritage List.

The Motherland Monument is one of the visiting cards of Kyiv. The sculpture is a part
of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War and
symbolizes the feat accomplished by people during the war.. Time and again sculpture
was denoted in various international and national ratings. The monument represents
an eclectic style. Total height is 102 meters.
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra – one of the largest Orthodox shrines of Ukraine, sights of history
and architecture, as well as acting monastery. The monastery, founded in 1051 as a
center for spreading the faith, spiritual and education, was the most significant and
influential in eastern Slavic Orthodox world.
Grand Saint Sophia Cathedral dominates the historic center of
ancient Kyiv for over a thousand years. Built in the era of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus,
it became the cradle of Christianity in Kyiv. The name of the cathedral comes from
Greek word «sofia», which means «wisdom». Cathedral marked the wisdom of the
Christian faith. St. Sophia Cathedral – the main temple of Ancient Rus. It was a
political, social and cultural center of the state.
Andriyivskyy Descent is one of the oldest roads that connects the Upper Town
with its central part of historically commercial “Podol”. Kyiv residents often call
it a "street-museum". At every step you can see something interesting, the
bohemian atmosphere of the late 19th - early 20th century reigns in this domain.

The Golden Gates is the main entrance to the capital of Kievan Rus`. In the 11th century, Kyiv was surrounded
by high earth walls and people could get in through one of the city gates. This amazing
work of that time artisans impressed enemies as its impregnability. The building
construction consisted of the wide arch with the battle platform. A white stone
church was built in the center of the platform. The golden dome of the church
once again confirmed the title of the gates.
Architect Vladislav Gorodetsky created many unusual buildings.
His most important work was his own castle - "House with Chimeras“
On the walls of the estate Gorodetsky placed statues of rhinos, giraffes, elephants,
crocodiles and other animals from Africa. It`s the place where the pythons go
down from the roof and replace gutters, and water drops come from heads of
rhinos."The house is certainly strange, but believe me, there is no one in Kiev who
leave it without attention" - said the author. More than a hundred years have passed,
but the house still arouses a keen interest of travelers. Every section of the wall deserves
attention. From one side of wall, gracious nymphs are peeking at you, and from the other chimeras.
