2017 Adult Summer Reading Brochure

Walking Club: Meet up with fellow walkers and
enjoy 6 walking routes in Glocester. The walks
range from 45 minutes to an hour. The walks will
take place on Wednesdays from June 28 through
August 2 at 8:00 am. Please register online or at
either library.

The first walk will meet at the Acotes Ballfield
across from Dino’s on Wednesday, June 28 at
8:00 am.
Summer Drawing Challenge: (Adults and teens
age 14+) If you like drawing and want to get
better at it, draw more! Create at least 30
drawings from our list of 51 prompts during the
93 days of summer. If you complete this
challenge, you will receive an artist grade sketch
book, drawing pencils, and kneaded eraser, so
you can continue to draw. You can register and
pick up the Summer Drawing
Challenge list online or at either library.

Welcome to the 2016
Summer Reading Program
Beginning June 1, 2017, you can register for
the Adult Summer Reading Program and all
of its programs and events.
To participate in the reading program you have to
be all grown up (18 and older), have a library
card, and enjoy books! Each Reader Response
form submitted between June 5, 2017 and August
4, 2017 acts as an entry form into our Reading
Raffles.

E books & audiobooks count!
Forms can be submitted online or at the
circulation desks of either library.


For folks who are reading to a pre-reader, list
6 titles on a Reader Response form and you,
too, will be entered in one of our raffles.
In addition to our reading raffles, we
offer passes to the south County Museum and the
Marble House tour in Newport. Also, we offer
numerous events and programs throughout the
summer:

SUMMER EVENTS
Fly Tying : Adults and teens (ages 14+) are
invited to learn the craft of fly tying with Scott
Travers from R.I Dept. of Environmental
Management. The classes will take place over
three consecutive Tuesday evenings from
6:00—8:00pm, June 13, 20 & 27 at GML. All
equipment for the fly tying will be supplied.

History of the CCC Camps in R.I.: Join us for
a presentation by retired teacher Marty
Podskoch about our state’s Civilian
Conservation Corps camps, including
Glocester’s George Washington Management
Area. Monday, June 19 at 6:00pm. HAR
Garden Pests & Diseases: U.R.I. Master
Gardener, Rosanne Sherry, will present
information on identifying and controlling pests
and diseases commonly found in our gardens.

Zentangle: Adults and teens (age 14+) will
learn how to draw beautiful images using
structured patterns on tile. There is a $5 materials fee. Advance registration is required.
Monday, July 10 at 6:00pm. HAR
Upcycled Feed Bags: Using a little creativity
and a sewing machine, you will create a tote bag
from a recycled feed bag with nice graphics. All
materials will be supplied. Two sessions are
offered: Tuesdays, July 11 & 18 at 6:00pm.

Plein Air Plus: Have you ever drawn with the
earth underfoot and the sun your source of light?
If not, you should follow the path of countless
artists and give it a try. We will
explore this art form by visiting a variety of
local landscapes. In the event of inclement
weather, participants will have the opportunity
to draw a challenging still life in the Community
Room. Wednesday, July 12, 19, & 26 at
6:00pm. Various locations.
Dinner & Book Discussion : Read and
Discuss the bestselling Before the Fall by Noah
Hawley. A light summer dinner will be served.
