The Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations and the New York Office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) invite you to a side event during the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation on Nuclear Weapons (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty – NPT): “Towards a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World: An Exchange between German Parliamentarians and International Civil Society in Support of a Successful NPT Review Conference” Tuesday, May 12, 2015, 1:00 – 2:45 p.m Restaurant, 23rd floor Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN 871 United Nations Plaza (1st Avenue between 48th and 49th Street) Lunch will be served Progress at the NPT Review Conference will not come easily and require that joint efforts of all Parties to the Treaty will be aided by other initiatives. This informal discussion event will provide an opportunity for a frank exchange between the Bundestag’s leading parliamentarians on nuclear disarmament – representatives of government as well as opposition parliamentary groups – and disarmament experts from international civil society organizations. They will be able to address a number of key challenges for nuclear disarmament and Germany’s potential role towards that end. The discussion will be opened by Ambassador Susanne Baumann, Deputy Federal Commissioner for Disarmament, Arms control and nonproliferation. The delegation is led by Mr. Robert Hochbaum (Member of the German Parliament, CDU/CSUChristian Democratic Union, Chair of the Subcommittee for Disarmament Affairs).
