VINCE PARRILLO was Director of the musical, Kiss Me, Kate, Players Guild of Leonia, Civil War Drill Hall Theater, October-November 2014. VINCE PARRILLO’S documentary, Gaetano Federici: The Sculptor Laureate of Paterson, was screened at the Paterson Falls Film Festival on June 14, 2015. GRANTS AND CONTRACTS RECEIVED 37 WENDY CHRISTENSEN was awarded a summer stipend from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Research Center to work on her book, Our Families, Your Freedom: How Military Mothers Support and Challenge the U.S. War on Terrorism. JENNIFER DI NOIA was awarded a $275,000 grant from the USDA/ARS Children’s Nutrition Research Center to develop and test online nutrition education for women enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). KEUMJAE PARK was the co-director of Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad grant (20132015). The grant supported a seminar trip to South Korea for 12 teachers and pre-service teacher candidates. The candidates spent 4 weeks during July and August, 2014 to learn Korean language, culture, and history, and observe Korea’s education system. In the spring 2015 semester, she also organized the Teaching Asia Conference. For this conference, she was awarded, on behalf of WPU, a small grant by Association for Asian Studies Northeast Asia Council Distinguished Speakers Bureau. The grant covers the honorarium for a campus visit and lecture by a Distinguished Speaker with regional expertise. Thanks to this grant, WPU was able to host a lecture by Professor Charles Armstrong of Columbia University, a recognized expert in Korean history. Keumjae prepared the application and the final report for this small grant. VINCE PARRILLO received a $7,000 grant from the Alumni Association to cover film editing expenses in spring 2015 for his documentary, Paterson and Its People. A $1,000 sociology graduate student scholarship was awarded to Betty Vivero from an endowed fund that Vince created. MICHAEL SCHLOSSMAN was among faculty in the Sociology Department who explored the possibility of applying for a state juvenile justice grant to offer a juvenile justice concentration within the Criminology major. Although the department decided not to pursue this grant, Michael did background research on the types of juvenile justice concentrations and courses offered in other universities. DENIZ YUCEL was awarded Assigned Release Time (ART) for four semesters between fall 2015Spring 2017 for two simultaneous projects. Using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (ADD-Health), the first project explores the effect of quality of sibling relationships on academic and social outcomes among adolescents. The second project explores the effect of quality of sibling relationships on relationship outcomes among adults.
