Preparing For Your Procedure GI & ENDOSCOPY LAB Colonoscopy Movi Prep It is very important that you follow these steps outlined below very closely. This will ensure that your prep is adequate and that you receive a proper exam. 2 DAYS PRIOR TO PROCEDURE You will have a Low-Residual Diet: Low Residue Diet GRAIN PRODUCTS DAIRY Enriched refined white bread, buns, bagels, English muffins AVOID: No dairy products before the colonoscopy Plain cereals e.g. Cheerios, Cornflakes, Cream of Wheat, Rice Krispies, Special K NUTS AND SEEDS Arrowroot cookies, tea biscuits, soda crackers, plain melba toast AVOID: All nuts and seeds, as well as foods that may contain seeds (such as yogurt) White rice, refined pasta and noodles VEGETABLES AVOID: Whole grains Vegetable juices FRUITS Potatoes (no skin) Fruit juices except prune juice Well-cooked and tender vegetables including alfalfa sprouts, beets, green/yellow beans, carrots, celery, cucumber, eggplant, lettuce, mushrooms, green/red peppers, squash, zucchini Applesauce, apricots, banana (1/2), cantaloupe, canned fruit cocktail, grapes, honeydew melon, peaches, watermelon AVOID: raw and dried fruits, raisins and berries. AVOID: vegetables from the cruciferous family such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, Swiss chard, etc. MEAT AND PROTEIN CHOICE Well-cooked, tender meat, fish and eggs AVOID: beans and lentils 1 THE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE You will need to begin a clear, liquid diet: ginger-ale, Sprite, tea, and coffee, chicken broth, beef broth, popsicles, and Jell-O. Please do not have anything with red or orange food coloring. If you are diabetic, please check your blood sugar, and if you experience a drop in your blood sugar then drink a cola or an orange juice to raise your blood sugar. At 6:00 p.m. on the day before your procedure, you will need to begin drinking your bowel prep. Directions for Bowel Prep 1. Empty 1 pouch A and 1 pouch B into the container. 2. Add lukewarm drinking water to the top line of the container. 3. Mix to dissolve. 4. You should drink until the ENTIRE bottle is empty. Regardless of what directions you receive at the pharmacy, it is very important for you to drink ENTIRE bottle to endure a thorough exam. If you become nauseous or you vomit, stop drinking for 1 hour and restart slowly. THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE At the time specified by your doctor repeat STEPS 1-4 using the 2nd pouch A and 2nd pouch B. You may have as many clear liquids as you desire up until 2 hours before your exam (nothing by mouth after the time specified by your doctor). 2
