Map Information
Following heavy rains caused by storms Desmond, Eva, Frank, Gertrude and Henry, that
affected Ireland over the last few months, several counties were hit by floods. The situation is
still critical especially in the County of Roscommon. The Army deployed troops to counties to
support local authorities and communities in the supply and distribution of sandbags, the
evacuation of homes, the provision of transport to stranded persons and the manning of
pumps in affected areas. The present map shows the flood delineation in the area
surrounding Castelplunket (County of Roscommon, Ireland), with particular focus over
Turloughs where the water level has risen significantly.
The thematic layer has been derived from post-event satellite image using a semi-automatic
approach. The estimated geometric accuracy is 10 m CE90 or better, from native positional
accuracy of the background satellite image.
