in Rockingham County, NC and has five known siblings: James (m. Malinda POWELL), John (m. Ann Matthews),
Kezziah (m. Daniel POWELL), Sophia (m. George L Taylor) and Dock W Bowman (m. Lacinda (sic) Bryan). Nancy
Goodman, Raymond Bowman’ s wife, was born about 1828 in NC. Does not say when the family moved to Dale Co.,
just that Nancy appeared as head of household in 1860 Dale. No further mention of Powells.

One of these marriages (did not note which one) had a Sidney Alford as witness (prob. his wife, as indicated below).
The middle initial on the marriage records was hard to determine, looking something like an “N” or possibly a “U” or
“V”. Even his 1910 census entry looks more like an “N” than a “U”. The cemetery listing below indicates it is a “U”.
According to a listing of Limestone Community Cemetery by Tonia Porter at
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/fl/walton/cemetery/limeston.txt , the cemetery is located between between the
communities of Gaskin and Darlington in North Walton County.

In 1910, Charlie N (32) and Sidney C (25) were still in Limestone, Walton County.
In 1920, Charlie U (42), Missionary Baptist Clergyman, and Sydney C (37) were in West DeFuniak Springs, Walton.
The Shoal River (where William J Powell was enumerated in 1900 in Walton County Precinct 7, called Election District
7 in 1880 and Choctawhatchee National Forest in 1910) runs from NW of DeFuniak Springs westward towards
Crestview and then turns SW and feeds into the Yellow River. Most of it is now in Okaloosa County, as are the towns of
Crestview, Baker, Holt and Milligan. Crestview used to be on the western edge of Walton Co, and Baker, Holt and
Milligan were in Santa Rosa County.
