Game No. 73 -- Home Game No. 38 -- PNC Field -- Wednesday, June 22, 2016 -- 7:05 p.m. (MyTV)
RAILRIDERS BREAKDOWN
HOME: 20-17 AWAY: 22-13 STREAK: W 3 LAST 5: 3-2 LAST 10: 8-2
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders rolled to a 9-2 win over the Mud Hens
last night. SWB has won nine of its last 11. The Mud Hens have lost 10 of 13.
CLEAN DOZEN: SWB stands a season-best 12 games over .500 halfway through
its 144-game regular season. The RailRiders own second place in the IL North, 2.0
games back of the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) who boast the IL's best
record (44-28). SWB has a slim 1.0-game lead in the wild-card race over its closest
geographic foe, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies).
SOL MAN: Donovan Solano posted a season-high-tying three hits, knocked in a
run and scored a tally. A .259 bat after an 0-for-4 effort versus the Charlotte
Knights on June 8, Solano has since gone 17-for-41 over 11 games, slashing
.415/.455/.512/.967 with seven RBIs and six runs scored. His two-week surge has
lifted his average back up to .285, the best it has been since he closed May at .288.
He has handled lefties particularly well on the year, slashing .338/.378/.438/.815.
Solano owns six multi-hit performances over his last 10 games with an at-bat. His
eighth three-hit game of the season was also his fourth multi-hit showing against
Toledo. He has gone 10-for-21 (.476) against the Mud Hens.
GUILTY AS CHARGED: Aaron Judge delivered his first multi-HR game as a
pro, pulling a two-run liner to left in the first and bashing an opposite-way two-out
solo shot in the third. He also connected on a career-high-tying four hits. He saw
his batting average bottom out at .221 after an 0-for-3 day versus Columbus on
June 2 during an 0-for-24 tailspin. Since then he has reached base in 16 of 17 going
23-for-60 with five homers, 14 RBIs, 14 walks and 22 runs scored. In that time he
has slashed .365/.500/.667/1.167. His season-long OBP has risen by nearly 60
points (.285-.343) with 47% of his overall walk total in the 17-game run. All five
of those homers have come over his last nine games played. He leads the team in
big flies (12) and RBIs (39). He played his last Double-A game of last season on
June 21 before departing Trenton with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs with four homers
over his last nine games. He had not bashed multiple homers in a single game since
May 17, 2013 for Fresno St. versus Nevada in his junior and final collegiate season. Per Fresno St. sports information, his blasts that day were estimated to be a
500-foot two-run jack, and a 460-foot solo home run. Judge was the 2012 college
home-run-derby champion. No SWB player has ever hit three home runs in a
regulation game. The lone three-dinger effort came on Aug. 16, 1998 at Buffalo
when catcher Gary Bennett hit three in the extra-inning game.
