WHAT the BIBLE TEACHES about GOD and JESUS CHRIST Lesson 5 - Part 3 JESUS CHRIST IS GOD Jesus Christ has the attributes of God. 1. In Part 2 we learned about four attributes of God which Jesus has. These show that He is God. Write down four attributes of God which Jesus has. Also write the meaning of each attribute. ! which means ! which means ! which means ! which means ************************************************* 2. The four attributes are: ! ! ! ! Jesus is eternal which means He is from always to always. Jesus is self-existing which means He has life in Himself. Jesus is infinite which means He cannot be measured. Jesus is immutable which means He cannot be changed. In this lesson we want to learn three more attributes of God. Jesus Christ also has these attributes: ! ! ! omnipresent omniscient omnipotent What does an attribute do? ************************************************* 3. An attribute tells what someone or something is like. Look at these three words: omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent. All three words start with “omni.” These words really come from Latin words. Word Latin Word English meaning omnipresent omni praesens all presence omniscient omnis scientia all knowledge omnipotent omnis potens all powerful What does “omni” mean? ************************************************* 4. “Omni” means “all.” Let us look at “omnipresent” first. It means to be “all present” or to be present in all places at the same time. God is present in every country and place in the world at the same time. Read Psalm 139:7-12. These verses talk about where God is. Where can we hide from God? ************************************************* 5. We cannot hide from God. He is everywhere. We say God is omnipresent or He is present in all places. When Jesus Christ lived as a man, He was present only at one place at one time. As God He is present in every place at the same time. Matthew 28:20 And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age. When is Jesus with those who follow Him? ************************************************* 6. He is with them always, to the end of the age or to the end of time. How long will Jesus be with us? ************************************************* 7. He will never leave us. He is always present. What is the first attribute we learn in this lesson? ! ! ! Omniscient Omnipotent ************************************************* 8. Jesus Christ is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. Look at frame #3. What does omniscient mean? ****************** ****************************** 9. Omniscient means all know- ledge. God knows all things. What does Jesus Christ know? Look up these verses and write down what He knows. John 2:24,25 John 6:64 John 13:1 ************************************************* 10. Jesus knew the thoughts of men. He also knew who would believe on Him. He knew the time He would have to leave the world. Only God can know such things. This means Jesus Christ knows what we think, plan, do, and will do. Why can we not keep some things secret from Jesus Christ? ************************************************* 11. Jesus knows all things. He is omniscient. Even if we want to keep some things secret, we cannot do it. Jesus knows what is inside of us. Colossians 2:2,3 . . . so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. What is another way of saying, “Jesus Christ knows all things?” ************************************************* 12. Jesus is omniscient. Jesus also is omnipotent. Again look at frame #3. What does omnipotent mean? ************************************************* 13. Omnipotent means all powerful. Sometimes we see very strong men. They can lift heavy things or they can work hard. But no person has all power. There is always a limit to their power. Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority (power) in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” How much power or authority has been given to Jesus? ************************************************* 14. All power has been given to Jesus. What are some things which Jesus has power to do? ! Matthew 9:6 ! Hebrews 7:25 ! 2 Timothy 1:12 ! Luke 8:25 ! Mark 1:27 ************************************************* 15. He has power to forgive sins, and to save people completely. He is able to guard what we have entrusted to Him. He has power over the wind and the sea. Even the evil spirits must obey Him. Jesus has all power. He is omnipotent. Jesus has the attributes of God. He is God. Philippians 2:10,11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Because Jesus is God, what should we do? ************************************************* 16. We should worship Jesus as God. We learned four attributes of God in the previous lessons and three more in this lesson. Write down the seven attributes of God which Jesus has. Also write the meaning of each attribute. ! which means ! which means ! which means ! which means ! which means ! which means ! which means ************************************************* 17. Can you write out your memory verse, Hebrews 1:8 now? Try it. ************************************************* WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES ABOUT GOD AND JESUS CHRIST by Helen Pope.
