Bedtime Math Summer of Numbers

Bedtime Math Summer of Numbers
Foot in Your Mouth – Or on Your Arm
Bedtime Math Summer of
Numbers
People come in all shapes and sizes, but some body parts always relate to
each other in a certain way. For instance, your foot matches the length
from your elbow crease to your wrist, or comes very close. Really! Hold your
foot up to your arm, and the length will match. Meanwhile, your head is
about 4 to 5 times as wide as your eye, although thankfully we don’t all have
4 eyeballs—the world would look so confusing! In any case, try measuring
your own body parts to see how they all line up.
Wee Ones
Which is longer, your hand or your
whole arm?
Little Kids
If you actually had five eyes instead of
two, how many more eyes would you
have than you do now?
Big Kids
If you stretch your arms to the side, that width
is about the same as your height. If your arms
span 41 inches and you’re just two inches taller
than that, how tall are you?
Bonus
If you’re seven times as tall as your seveninch-tall head, how tall are you?
