God-Given Responsibility
God calls us to care for all creation with love and wisdom. In Psalm 8:6–8,
David honors God for giving us this power and responsibility:
You have given them rule over the works of your hands, put all things at
their feet: All sheep and oxen, even beasts of the field, the birds of the air
and the fish of the sea, and whatever swims in the paths of the seas. Oh
Lord, our Lord, how awesome is your name through all the earth!
The Catholic Social Teaching theme of Care for God’s Creation emphasizes
respect for people, animals, the seas, the sky, and the earth—all of God’s creation.
Care for God’s Creation
Think about our God-given responsibility to care for creation. Read each
situation and write one solution that would show you are following God’s
instructions to care for creation.
1. What would you do if you saw a friend littering in a park?
2. What would you do if there was an empty lot on your block filled with trash?
3. What would you do if you noticed a leaky faucet in the restroom sink at

4. What you do if you saw that all leftover food in the cafeteria is always thrown
away?
