If you are interested in receiving assistance with funding for training, the Talent Coaches will
evaluate what requisites you need to meet in order to start the process of attending approved
training through work2future. Note: Training funding is not an entitlement, approval is determined
on a case by case basis.
You will be provided with a Training Checklist Referral that tells you of all the requirements for
training according to your specific situation. Ask a Talent Coach about:

desire. Note: In order to obtain training funds from work2future, you can only attend training at
a school that has a contract with work2future.

Customers who do not live in work2future’s service delivery areas will not be able to obtain occupational skills
training funding from work2future. Those customers will need to request funding from their local

COHORT TRAINING
Unlike individual participants in our Occupational Skills Training programs, Cohort Training
participants begin and complete their program as a group of work2future customers, rather
than as individuals. This creates better opportunities for peer support and networking during the
learning process and job searches.
These programs are aimed at experienced workers seeking to advance their skills. In order to maximize
customer success, interested participants should register for and attend pre-enrollment
orientations for the specific program they’re interested in.

CALIFORNIA TRAINING BENEFITS ((CTB)) INFORMATION
The EDD’s California Training Benefits (CTB) Program allows eligible (eligibility
is on a case-by-case basis) Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants to
receive UI benefits while attending an approved training program, this is
known as a Training Extension (TE) Claim.
If you are ready to apply and become qualified to receive Unemployment Insurance
(UI) Benefits, notify the Employment Development Department (EDD) that you are
interested in training before your 16th week of unemployment.
 The CTB program does not cover any educational or training related expenses such as
tuition, fees, book, supplies, or transportation.
 If your training is authorized and verifiable by one of the following state or federal
programs, EDD will approve your CTB participation if you meet all other UI criteria:
Workforce Investment Act (WIA); Employment Training Panel (ETP); Trade Adjustment Act
(TAA) and the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)
