Pennies for Patients
National Junior Honors Society Thanks CMMS!
The National Junior Honor Society would like to thank everyone who donated during Pennies for
Patients to help kids battle cancer! As a school, we raised over $2,000! Our top donating classroom
was Mrs. Teslow's advisory. With the anonymous piggy bank, her class raised over $200! Mrs. Powell's
advisory placed second. They have both won an Olive Garden lunch!
The following classrooms were runners-up, having the next highest totals on their teams. They
were rewarded with a donut party.

"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is
knowing which ones to keep."
Welcome to Art! We have been off to a busy start this year and
look forward to much more creativity!
6th and 7th Grades: We started with a basic introduction to the
Elements of Art, and discovered Zentangle. Keeping an openmind through mood painting, we continue to build our illustration skills, work with modeling and ceramic clays, create Graffiti
art, design African Name Masks, learn about Sugar Skulls, construct papel picado, experiment with watercolor painting as well
as introductions to many artists: Monet, Gauguin, Mondrian and
Van Gogh etc.
8th Grade: We began with a review on the basic Elements of
Art and quickly moved to Zentangle Art and discovery in Op Art.
We continued building on our illustration skills, constructing with both modeling and ceramic clay, designing Sugar
Skulls, collaborating with a caring community project during
Red Ribbon Week, and communicating through design with watercolor. As risk-takers, students are learning through their creative discovery the possibilities of their individual art voice.
I look forward to working with your children, and I am always
impressed and amazed to see how they grow, change and create over the course of the school year.
Creatively yours,
Mrs. Johnson
