CELEBRATING THE IRISH
IN ALL OF US
MICHELLE and DONNA
The morning dietary staff puts
out a wonderful buffet every day
at 10:30 a.m., including
homemade biscuits and gravy,
eggs cooked to order, hash
browns and other alternates that
keep our residents happy.
Culture Change is alive and
well at Arbor Village. The five
meal a day plan is working very
well and our residents love it. The
evening cooks serve a beautiful
dinner buffet that always offers at
least two entrees with all the
trimmings. Our food rivals
restaurant quality food every day.
TINA FULLMER
If you haven’t met Tina yet, we
would like to introduce her to
you. She joined the Arbor Village
team as Activities Director in
February. From her first day here,
she was ramping up the activities
department and keeping the
residents busy.
If you would like to volunteer to
help out, call or drop by and visit
with Tina.
Three-Leaf Clover
SPRING FORWARD
Daylight saving time begins
March 11 at 2 a.m. Don’t forget
to set your clocks up one hour!!
The word “shamrock” is
derived from the Gaelic word
seamrog, meaning “little clover.”
Shamrock refers to a variety of
three-leaved plants, but many
experts regard a yellow-flowered
clover, Trifolium dubium, as the
official Irish shamrock.
St. Patrick’s Day will come a
little early for the residents of
Arbor Village this year. We will
have a St. Patty’s party on Friday,
March 16, at 2 p.m., complete
with green beer and pretzels,
along with other favorite party
snacks. Stop by and celebrate
with us; we’d love to include you
in our festivities.
Boldly Follow
Because we can’t all be the
leader, March 4 is Courageous
Follower Day.
Cheers!
Toast like the Irish on St.
Patrick’s Day by saying “Cheers”
in Gaelic: “Sláinte” (pronounced
slaan-cheh).

Put Life in Your Years
Saint Patrick
Do centenarians have a secret to
longevity? A study published in the
Journal of the American Geriatrics
Society indicates that it’s probably just
good genes. The survey of 477
individuals age 95 and older revealed
that people nearing 100 are as apt to
indulge in unhealthy habits as the
general population.
But before you scarf down that pint
of butter pecan ice cream, consider
this: Renowned heart surgeon Mehmet
Oz says healthy habits do make a
difference. While the 90-somethings in
the study were gifted with
extraordinary DNA, the rest of us can
make lifestyle changes to help us thrive
Saint Patrick is the
patron saint of
Ireland. He was taken
prisoner to Ireland
from England when
he was only 16. After
six years as a servant,
he escaped and
returned home. As an
adult, he became a
priest and returned to
Ireland as a
missionary.
As he began
converting the Irish to
Christianity, he used
the clover to explain
the Holy Trinity. We still
associate the clover
with St. Patrick.
Saint Patrick died
on March 17 and that
day is widely
celebrated by Irish
and non-Irish alike.

PENNY JONES, DIRECTOR OF
MARKETING AND ADMISSIONS
in our later years. Dr. Oz shared with
Time Magazine his tips for living longer
and better:
Exercise. Aim for at least three
30-minute workouts a week.
Get adequate vitamin D. Get
15 minutes of sun exposure every day
or take a vitamin D supplement.
Eat whole foods. Processing robs
foods of vital phytochemicals and
micronutrients.
Watch your weight. Obesity leads to
high blood sugar, high LDL cholesterol
and high blood pressure.
Sleep tight. Sleep increases levels of
growth hormone, a longevity booster.
Try to log at least seven hours a night.
Have a purpose. Loving your life
may be the biggest vitality builder
of all.
Penny came on board in September
as the marketer and admissions
coordinator. She is usually the first
person a potential resident and family
members meet. She is the perfect
person to represent Arbor Village.
Penny is friendly and outgoing. She has
lots of energy and she genuinely cares
about the welfare of the people she
meets in the community.
We are glad Penny chose Arbor
Village as her home base. She has
years of marketing experience and she
is a valuable and very welcomed
member of our team. If you don’t
know Penny, stop by her office and get
acquainted. She may be difficult to
catch, because she spends the
majority of her time out of the building
visiting hospitals.

Resident
of the
M nth
LLOYD McDANIEL
Lloyd McDaniel came to live at
Arbor Village in January 2009. He has
a lot of friends here and is out and
about daily pursuing his interests.
Before retirement, Mr. McDaniel
was a mechanic. He worked as a
mechanic for 38 years. He is
widowed and has children in the
area who stay in contact with him.
Mr. McDaniel enjoys watching
western movies and also loves to fish.
He says he never got to fish when he
was working, because he could
never find the time.
Mr. McDaniel is well-liked here at
Arbor Village and it’s easy to see why
he is the Resident of the Month
for March.
