Querying Serialized Products
Learning Objectives
At the end of this module, you will be able to:
n
Obtain data, status, and history for serial numbers and lots.
n
Compare the actual contents of a serialized container with the contents for the
container in the SOM repository.
Overview
You can use SOM’s query functions to:
n
Verify serialized products and containers.
n
Obtain details of serial numbers and their associated items.
n
Obtain a list of serialized events and the details for each event.
n
Move up and down through the aggregation hierarchy of serialized products.
n
Troubleshoot issues with serialized products and containers.

Querying a Serial Number's History
Use SOM to display a table containing each event in the lifecycle of a serial number.
The operation returns general information about the serial number and a list of
events:

View a Serial Number's History
You can query an item code and lot only if they have associated serialized items.
To view the serial number's history:
1. In Serialized Operations Manager, click Queries and click the Get Serial Number
History link.
2. Set Show Data From to the manufacturing site that provisioned the serial
number of the products you’re managing.
3. Enter the Serial Number.
4. Click Search.
5. To download a CSV file containing a row for each event, click Export Events to
CSV.
Querying Lots
Use SOM to obtain the following data on an item code and lot:
Lot Status Query Results
Item information
Provides the item’s packaging codes and internal material
number.
Lot information
Provides the lot’s expiration date, quality release status,
and the quantity of serial numbers in the repository for the
specified item code and lot.

Query an Item Code and Lot
You can query an item code and lot only if they have associated serialized items.
To query an item code and lot:
1. In Serialized Operations Manager, click Queries and click the Get Lot Status
link.
2. Set Show Data From to the manufacturing site that provisioned the serial
numbers of the products you’re managing.
3. Enter the Item Code or click the drop-down icon
and select a code.
If you type the beginning of the number, TraceLink autocompletes it.
The item codes in the list represent the serialized products at the site you
selected in the Show Data From menu.
4. Enter the Lot Number.
5. Click Search.

Reconciling the Contents of a Container
SOM lets you verify that the actual contents of a container match the items
aggregated in the repository for that container.
To make the comparison, you provide:
n
The serial number of the container
n
A list of the serial numbers in the actual container by typing the numbers,
scanning them, or uploading them in a file
By default, SOM provides just the discrepancies:
n
Items from the actual container that are not in the container in the serial
number repository
n
Items aggregated to the container in the repository that are not in the actual
container
Reconcile Container Example
In this example, the container in the repository has the serial numbers shown:

Page 12
9/25/2016
SOM reconciles the container in the repository with the actual container containing
these serial numbers:
If you opt to view the discrepancies only, these results show:
n
The item associated with the first serial number is in the actual container (
but not in the container in the repository (
n
),
).
The item associated with the second serial number is not in the actual container
(
), but it is in the container in the repository (

Page 13
).

You can turn off the View Discrepancies Only option, in which case you see the list
of items in the actual container and the list of items for the container in the repository
with the mismatch icon ( ) to show where there are discrepancies:
Reconcile a Container’s Contents
This procedure shows how to reconcile a container by specifying the actual serial
numbers for a container and comparing them to the container’s contents in the
repository.
To reconcile a container with its contents in the repository:
1. In Serialized Operations Manager, click Queries and click the Reconcile
Container link.
2. Set Show Data From to the manufacturing site that provisioned the serial
numbers of the products you’re managing.
3. Enter the Container Serial Number.

4. Check View Discrepancies Only to see the differences between the list of
serial numbers you provided and those aggregated in the container in the
repository.
View Discrepancies Only is enabled by default. If you uncheck the option,
you can see the list of items in the actual container and those aggregated to the
container in the repository.
5. Click Reconcile.
