Checks
Power is divided between the 3 branches
-One branch can block the actions of
another branch
-Example-President can veto a law passed
by Congress, but Congress can override the
President with a 2/3rd vote on the same bill

Balances
Balances allow each branch to have a role in
another
-EXAMPLE: The House of Representatives
can impeach an elected official, however the
SENATE conducts the trial
-EXAMPLE: The S.C. can declare laws
unconstitutional, but it is the President who
recommends the Justices, and the Senate
who confirms them
