iPad Tip Sheet- Restrictions 1. Restrictions There are a range of restrictions you can turn on in your settings menu to prevent access to specific features or content on the device. To open the Restrictions menu: Open Settings > Tap General >Restrictions. Tap Enable Restrictions and enter a passcode. You will need this passcode to change your settings or turn off Restrictions. If you lose or forget your Restrictions passcode, you will need to perform a factory restore to remove it. Once you have enabled restrictions, you can restrict access to a range of applications and features on the device. Some of the items you may wish to restrict include: • • • • • Safari (internet) Camera (this also disables FaceTime) iTunes Store Installing and/or deleting apps In-App Purchases (buying additional items from within applications) 2. Guided Access Guided Access allows you to temporarily restrict your device to a single app and disable areas of the screen. This can be a useful when implementing educational or communication apps to ensure that the person stays within the desired app. Guided Access also allows you to restrict areas of the screen that you don’t want used (e.g. settings menus), that aren’t relevant to a task, or areas where an accidental gesture might cause a distraction. To set up Guided Access: Tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access From there you can: • • Turn Guided Access on or off Set a passcode that controls the use of Guided Access and prevents someone from leaving an active session. If you lose or forget your passcode whilst in Guided Access, you will need to perform a factory restore to remove it. Start a Guided Access session • • Open the app that you want to run then quickly triple-click the Home button. The Guided Access information is then shown. Circle any part of the screen you wish to disable. Turn off Touch to disable all screen touches. Turn off Motion to keep the screen from changing between portrait and landscape. Press start to start guided Access- the home button and any other areas of the screen you selected will now be disabled. To turn off Guided Access triple click the home button, enter the Guided Access passcode and select ‘End’. 3. Stop Play Timer The stop play feature allows you to set the amount of time someone can use the iPad before getting ‘locked out’. This is a useful tool when needing to limit iPad use. To set the stop play timer launch the Clock app the menu at the bottom of the page. and select Timer from Set the timer to the amount of time that you would like the individual to have access to the device for (in hours and minutes). Select the music note under the timer then scroll to the bottom of the list to select Stop Playing. If you are using an iPhone or iPod the ‘When Timer Ends’ display shows this information. Make sure it displays Stop Playing. Press start and give the device to the user. After the timer runs out the device will bring up the Lock screen. If a passcode lock is set then the user will not be able to access the device without entering the passcode. ILC TECH Independent Living Centre [email protected] or 9381 0600 www.ilc.com.au
