A market probably better than expected for the first one of the year with an entry of over 1000 Hoggs averaging just
shy of 170.00ppk with the lighter types selling to a premium over the heavier sorts. Best today to 35.0kg Texel X’s at
178.00ppk for Messrs C L Reed & Son of Chittlehampton with 177.00ppk twice to 38.2kg Charollais X’s for Mr L A
Luxmoore of Crediton and 42.0kg Texel X’s for Mr B J Tapp of South Molton. 176.00ppk to Messrs Reed’s second
pen of 40.8kg Texels with 175.00ppk to 42.3kg Texel X’s for Mr G J B Heal of High Bickington. 174.00ppk three times
with light Texel X’s from Mr R E Brown of Stoodleigh, Messrs Roberts & Phillips of Dulverton with a 40.3kg pen of
Texels and Messrs R W Tapp & Son of South Molton with a 41.0kg pen of Charollais X’s.
Top money at £90.80 to a heavy pen of Texel X’s from Mr R J Evely of Petersmarland with £85.00 to 53.1kg Suffolk
X’s from Messrs Lucas & Ridge of Chulmleigh. Messrs G Dart & Sons of Molland three pens of heavy Texel X’s at
between £83.50 and £81.50 and 52.3kg Charollais X’s from Messrs D J & R A Woollcott of Yarnscombe at £82.50.
Mr Evely’s second pen of 51.1kg Texel X’s at £81.00 and Messrs Woollacott’s second pen at £81.20.
A good entry of Ewes to start the year, although the quality forwarded did not reflect in the price with the best being
£88.00 for Texels from Messrs F Chave & Son of Cruwys Morchard and Suffolks from the Tapp family at Molland
Cross at £87.50. Messrs Chave’s second pen at £87.00 with Suffolks from Mr A J Pickard of Bideford at £86.50.
Other Suffolks from Mr B W Cottle of Petrockstowe, Mr J K May of Bideford and Messrs R W Tapp & Son of South
Molton between £84.00 and £84.50.
Almost 200 Mull Ewes forwarded averaging £58.30 with the best to £68.00 and grazing sorts still selling well,
averaging £56.97. Several Rams entered with a Charollais from Mr K Hill of Bideford at £99.00, Suffolks from the
Tapp family of Molland Cross at £97.50 and £96.00 to a Charollais from Mr J K May of Bideford.
