Slough Salutes Theseus
At the very moment when Great Britain is in the midst of economic
difficulty and distress her scientists, engineers, pilots and manufacturers
proclaim their excellence. Theseus appears, the world's first type-tested
propeller turbine. In " Canterbury Tales" Chaucer styles Theseus " duke,"
that is, dux, "leader or emperor." Once more Britain leads the world.
We of Bell's congratulate the Bristol Aeroplane Company on producing
Theseus. We share in the pride and in the joy because as Specialists in
Applied Asbestos we have enjoyed the privilege of contributing to another
engineering triumph
•
It is by Enterprise, full courageous Enterprise, that British industry has
lived, does live and will live. Of that truth Theseus is a marvellous and
heartening symbol. Enterprise plus Research, of course: minute, faithful,
untiring, brave and determined Research. At Slough we .are instant and
constant in Research to the end that Asbestos may' be of exact and
increasing use in the production and perfection of Aircraft whether
Civilian or Military. Our Research and Development Department feels the
thrill of Theseus
