papal pocket guide

Welcome to the Nation's Capital
Buying a regular farecard
We want your visit to see Pope Benedict XVI in
Washington DC to be as pleasant and memorable as
possible. Please take a moment to review this
commemorative Pocket Guide so that your travel around
the city is easy and convenient. And for more
information, go to wmata.com/papalvisit.
Fares are based on when and how far you ride.
Getting to Nationals Park from Branch Ave,
Greenbelt or Stadium-Armory station
Nationals Park — the site of the Pope's visit — is half a
block from Navy Yard station on the Green Line. From
Branch Ave or Greenbelt station (the end stations on the
Green Line), board the train and ride to Navy Yard station.
From Stadium-Armory station (near RFK Stadium), board
either inbound train (Blue Line train signs will read
Franconia-Springfield, Orange Line train signs will read
Vienna). Transfer to a Green Line train at L'Enfant Plaza
station by following the signs directing you to the up
escalators to the Green Line toward Branch Ave station.
The Green Line train will take you to Navy Yard station.

first and last train times vary by station. See the station

Parking at Metro stations
On a weekday morning, Metro station parking lots fill up
quickly and early. If you plan to drive and park, be
prepared for the possibility of a station lot being full
when you get there.
On weekdays (through 3 a.m. Friday nights) there is
a daily parking fee. You need a SmarTrip® card (a
rechargeable farecard) to pay for parking and exit
Metro lots and garages. Cash is not accepted. Credit cards
are accepted at New Carrollton, Largo Town Center,
Anacostia, Franconia-Springfield, Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and
Shady Grove stations.
SmarTrip® cards are sold in Metrorail stations with major
parking facilities. Cards cost $10 ($5 for the card with $5 in
value already on it). Fare and parking value can be added
to SmarTrip® cards at Passes/Farecards machines. The
station manager can help you buy and/or add value to
your card.
