South Barwon Netball Newsletter Edition 1, 3 April 2016
South Barwon Netball Club is ready to take on the 2016 season with a new
coaching lineup and fresh young squads across all grades.
We welcome back Adam Sloan to the club as a coach, who along with the
support of Chris Browne will be leading our A and B Grade teams. Young
leaders Sarah Main and Kate Thompson will also be making their debut as coaches of the C and D Grade
squads.
We welcome Ruby Horton to the senior coaching ranks teamed with Tegan Barber who will take charge of
our U19 Squad.
Our juniors will again be guided by Chris Browne and Shirley Fagan, with the assistance of game day
coaches. Chris and Shirley are excited about the talented girls they will be working with throughout the
season, and look forward to seeing the girls develop their skills.
Kaitlyn Huston will also guide the ‘net set go' program at our club for
the first time ever looking after our 5-9 year olds on home games.
Our first game is a home game, and we come up against Bell Park
who will be showing of many new combinations after recruiting
heavily in the offseason.
A big welcome to all our new families and players joining South
Barwon for season 2016 and we hope that you enjoy a successful
time both on and off the court.
A special welcome to our new senior players joining us in season 2016 including;Rosie Shannahan – Joining us from Lara. Rosie will bring strength, depth and youthful experience into our
line-up for either end of the court in our A grade squad.
Ruby Shannahan – a tall GA/GS. Ruby will add to our tall timber in the A/B Grade squad.
Abbey Breen – Watch out for our speedy and smart new centre court player in our A grade team. Fresh from
an 8-month break from netball Abbey will bring leadership and a calm head to our young A grade team.
Alice Coakley – Our WA recruit. Alice will complement our defensive end of the court and team beautifully
with Kate Thompson and Rosie Shannahan in defence. With ANL experience, height and athleticism we are
thrilled to have Alice join our club.
Kara Field – joins us from Albury. Kara is a very fit and tall defender who
will complement our senior squads.
Abbey Van Someren – new, fit and energetic player who will add some
zest to our senior squads in 2016.
Emily Ramsay – an incredibly young fit player who is playing GFL netball
for the first time and will add plenty to our U19 squad.

A big welcome back to Jordee Gavin (Nicholls) and Beth Knuckey from family leave and Danielle Delaney
and Tayla Allen who are re-joining the club after seasons away.
We are looking forward to some new combinations on the court, and are ready to face the challenges that
they will bring. We hope to see all of our supporters, both old and new at the games, and will have our
amazing egg and bacon rolls on sale for all to enjoy.

Chocolate Drive 2016 – The Freddo’s are back!
Each family will be issued with a box of Cadbury Chocolates on May 4th or 5th at training.
All money will be due back by May 28th.

This year there is an option if you do not want a box of chocolates that you can donate $30 instead.
If you would like to donate the profits and not take a box of chocolates the $30 MUST be given to
Lisa or Michelle by 25th April before the order is delivered.
Players Auction 2016
Our official 2016 Players Auction is being held on Saturday 9th April 2016 at the clubrooms. The evening
will kick off at 6:00pm with the awards from the Round 1 senior football and netball. Player auctions will
commence at around 7:00pm. There will be entertainment, drinks at bar prices and pizza available to
purchase.
Check out the South Barwon Team App, website and Facebook page for further information. It is expected
that ALL senior players will attend the launch.
Friday Night & U11 Competition
The Friday night competition is due to commence on Friday 8 April 2015 and the U11 teams commence on
Tuesday 12 April 2015. Teams will be advised of final details and game times as soon as possible. Good
luck to all teams involved.

place for you to receive information from coaches and

Tess Campigli – Awarded a sporting blue award for netball for 2015 from the department of
education in Victoria. This award is for state sporting excellence in netball after Ali starred for the
U13 State Netball Team in 2015.
Kate Thompson – for selection in the Victorian Fury Team to participate in the Australian Netball
league in 2016.
Ellen Doyle and Eliza Hager – selection in the 2016 Pacific All Stars School Sports Australia Netball
Team to tour New Zealand in April and May of this year. Please support them for our first 2 home
games by purchasing an egg and bacon roll at the courts.
Access to Club Physiotherapist and Trainers
Each Saturday the club is employing a fully qualified trainer to be available and in attendance at the courts
from 9.30AM until the end of the A grade match for strapping, massage and running repairs on each
Saturday. All South netballers are also able to access the Club Physio ‘Manu’ and myotherapists on Monday
nights throughout the season between 5.30PM and 7PM at the Macdonald Reserve Clubrooms. Please
make use of these experts to maximize your recovery from the weekend and to get any niggles attended too.

into our social calendar this season and it will only be successful if the functions are well supported.

After the game at Grovedale everybody is welcome back at the clubrooms for a Trivia Night commencing at
7.30pm. Get a table together or just bring yourself along for a quirky, fun filled evening.
