Early Hominid Keynote Presentation Task: As a class, we have learned about Lucy, one of the earliest prehistoric humans. Working in pairs or groups, you will be assigned a hominid group to read about. Using the information that you gather, you will create a Keynote presentation. When all the groups are finished, each will present their final product to the class while they take notes. Roles: • The Re-senter (Reader/Presenter): This person will read the information aloud. He/she will be fully involved in the exchange of ideas and creation of the presentation. However, the Re-senter will not be creating anything on their iPad. The Re-senter must check over the Keynote presentation before asking Sarah for final approval. The Re-senter must be very familiar with the Keynote presentation because it is his/her responsibility to share it with the class. The Re-senter must also be able to answer any questions about the topic. (*If the group has three people, role of the Re-senter can be shared.) • The Keynoter: This person will silently read the information along with the Re-senter. He/she will create the Keynote presentation on their iPad. The Keynoter will interact with other group members and discuss all ideas presented. While the Keynoter is in charge of creating the presentation using their iPad, they are not the only member contributing ideas to the presentation. That is the responsibility of every group member. (The Re-senter will do a final check of the document when the group believes it is finished.) Process: Sarah will assign each group a hominid. Open the Early Hominids Reading, which should be saved in your iBooks application. 1. The Re-senter for each group will read the information aloud as each group member follows along. 2. Groups will discuss what the main points of the reading are and how to fill in their portion of the graphic organizer. (These are also the facts that will be presented to the rest of the class.) 3. The Keynoter will begin to create the presentation using the Keynote application. The Re-senter can begin to fill in the graphic organizers for the group. • Keynote Presentation Requirements – o Include the scientific name and nickname of your hominid. o Include information about where and when your hominid lived. o Include a description of important capabilities. o Use http://earlyhumans.phillipmartin.info/index.htm to include copyright-free images. o You may include transitions. o Spelling and grammar are very important. Keep this in mind. o To make it easier to read for your audience, limit yourself to one sentence per bullet point. o The Reader/Presenter will do a final check of the document when the group believes it is finished.
