‘Small Business Surviving & Striving in a Global Economy’
With keynote speaker
DAVID MCWILLIAMS
Global Economist, Author, Journalist and Economic Advisor
David McWilliams is a world-renowned economist and uncompromising thinker, with a
relaxed, confident and entertaining style. His objective is to make economics as widely
available and easily understandable on as many platforms as possible.
He regularly talks at big financial conferences about trends in the global economy and
how we might profit from them, as well as with businesses or industrial groups on how
the trends in growth, currencies and financial markets will uniquely affect them.
He is also an author, journalist, lecturer, broadcaster and documentary maker and has written four bestsellers,
presented award-winning documentaries and has even brought economics to the stage, at Ireland’s Abbey Theatre.
He is very active on social media and the third most widely followed economist in the world with 135,000 Twitter
followers. David is also ranked “Ireland’s the most influential Twitter user”. He writes two economics columns a
week and is a regular international contributor to the Financial Times.
As the keynote speaker for opening event of Limerick Business Week David will give his views on the future of
small and medium-sized locally owned businesses and how they can face up and challenge competitor that is
bigger, stronger, fitter, cleverer and much better resourced. He will also focus on businesses that make things
for export and how they can leverage off the brand of Ireland - an image that is reinforced constantly by tourism.
‘Be they in food, whiskey, crafts or clothing these companies are selling more than a product, they are selling an
experience. They are selling Ireland’s story to the buyer. The story is where the value lies. The experience is based
on the brand and the brand occupies an emotional place deep in the brains of the buyer. This is the essential
alchemy of small exporting businesses.’
