INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARENTS – PLUS APPLICATION GO TO WWW.STUDENTLOANS.GOV CLICK ‘LOG-IN’ TO MY ACCOUNT COMPLETE THE MPN BEGIN THE PLUS APPLICATION PROCESS A CREDIT DECISION WILL BE PROVIDED AT THE COMPLETION OF THE APPLICATION The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) When you completed your FAFSA, the Federal Department of Education’s Central Processing System (CPS) reviewed your application to determine the amount the government believes you and/or your family should be able to contribute to your education. The FAFSA information also identifies whether or not your information alone will be needed to complete this process or if your parent’s or spouse, if applicable, information will be needed. The final formula calculates the EFC, and this number is used to determine what types of financial aid you are eligible to receive and the amount. It is also used to determine ‘Financial Need.’ Financial Need is determined by the following formula: Cost of Attendance (COA) (tuition & fees, books & supplies, room & board and other miscellaneous expenses) Your EFC _______________________________ = Your Financial Need FEDERAL WORK STUDY: If you received the estimated Federal Work Study (FWS) on your Award Letter, you have passed the initial review to determine your eligibility for FWS. To confirm your eligibility and to be able to be assigned to a position, you must visit Financial Aid Services to obtain additional information. If you do not complete this process within three weeks of the semester, the award will be canceled and made available to other eligible students.
