Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission Student Internship The Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission is part of a Countywide Criminal Justice Coordination Committee (CCJCC) Task Force on Hate Crimes and Outreach Response that is working with law enforcement, community-based organizations, and government agencies to promote coordination and sharing knowledge of practices that are effective in preventing and responding to anti-Muslim/Arab/Middle Eastern hate crimes in L.A. County which have followed high profile events such as the San Bernardino, Paris, or 9/11 attacks. This task force will produce a report that outlines best practices for law enforcement to adopt. The Commission is seeking to work with volunteer student (undergraduate/graduate) interns on the following research tasks: finding and summarizing relevant articles, reports, studies from think tanks, task forces, nonprofits, and other entities on this subject; completing annotated bibliographies; searching peer-reviewed academic journals; attending meetings and writing field notes; and participating in interviews with law enforcement and other officials as part of data compilation. This is a great opportunity for a committed student to develop a capstone project or thesis, build research skills, as well as develop an understanding of governmental, law enforcement and community collaboration. There will be in-person meetings in the Los Angeles area but the student researcher can largely work remotely. Interested students can begin work on this project now through October 2016.
