CHEMICAL RESISTANCE GUIDE
HOW TO USE
This guide represents the general chemical resistance of RUST-OLEUM Finish coats. The
information may be used in conjunction with your good judgment to choose the best system to
resist a specific chemical exposure. The service life is dependent upon proper surface
preparation and application, as well as the length and frequency of exposure to the chemical.
DESCRIPTIONS
ALKYDS
RUST-OLEUM ® provides
Industrial Enamels. A general purpose, economical alkyd coating system designed to resist mild
industrial fumes and spillage. The chemical resistance is greatest in the areas of acids and weak solvents.
Industrial Enamel 7600 System. These alkyd coatings are intended for areas where VOC
levels in maintenance coatings must be less than 420 g/l. High-solids coatings yield greater
coverage than standard enamels.
Industrial Enamel 3400 System.The 3400 modified alkyd enamel system with a VOC of less than
340 g/l provides the same protection as standard Industrial Enamels along with VOC compliance
and greater coverage.
Hard Hat® Industrial Sprays. A fast drying alkyd coating packaged in handy 16-ounce containers.
This product has similar resistance to the 1500 Speedy Dry System. It is ideal for touch-up, stenciling,
marking and color coding.

RUST-OLEUM system for
each job is important.
High Performance 5200 System. This high performance acrylic industrial enamel system is a
water-based alternative to solvent-based alkyd enamels over the full spectrum of interior and
exterior industrial maintenance applications. VOC of 250 g/l meets the strictest VOC regulations.
HI-LO DTM™ 3700 System. A water-based, acrylic coating that applies and performs like an alkyd in
temperatures ranging from 35-100°F (2-38°C) and up to 95% humidity. It provides excellent gloss
retention and resistance to corrosion, weathering, chemical fumes and spills.
Speedy Dry 3100 DTM System. Lead-free, low VOC, fast-dry direct to metal, water-based acrylic
high gloss enamel. Designed for application to properly prepared ferrous and non-ferrous metal,
concrete and previously coated and primed substrates in mild to moderate industrial environments.
EPOXIES
Heavy Duty 9300 System. A two component polyamide converted epoxy coating system for superior
resistance to alkalis, oils, and solvents. Best for alkalis resistance. Resists heavy foot and light vehicle
traffic.
C9578 Coal Tar Epoxy. A two-component product with outstanding resistance to abrasion
and immersion in salt water as well as acidic and alkaline water. It is self-priming and can be used
on concrete or steel structures and steel surfaces exposed to extremely corrosive environments.
High-Performance 9100 System. Two-component, high-solids epoxy mastic coating featuring
single-coat application directly over sound rusted, abrasive blasted, or clean steel, galvanized
metal, previously painted surfaces, or properly prepared concrete and masonry surfaces.
Excellent long-term solvent, chemical, and abrasion resistance.
Water-Based 5300 System. Two-component water-based amine epoxy coating system combines
the performance of solvent-based epoxies with the convenience of water-based coatings.

Heavy-Duty 6500 System. For exceptional protection of concrete. Use on new, old uncoated, or
previously coated-concrete floors exposed to heavy foot and rubber-wheeled traffic, intermittent
chemical spills, splashes, and power washings. The super high-gloss finish is easy to maintain.
Water-Based 6000 System. Self-leveling, two-component epoxy floor coating combines excellent
abrasion and chemical resistance of solvent-based epoxies with the convenience of a water-based system.
ANTI-SLIP FLOOR COATINGS
Water-Based AS6000 System. Two-component, low-VOC epoxy for wet areas on concrete –
pools, locker rooms, showers, laundries, and walkways.
One-Step AS5400 System. Single-component, low-VOC epoxy able to withstand heavy pedestrian
and light rolling traffic, as well as gasoline, oil, salt water, acid, alkali, and aliphatic solvents.
High Performance AS9100 System. Heavy-duty, two-component low-VOC epoxy for maximum
durability under heavy vehicular traffic. Ideal for ramps, walkways, forklift traffic, loading docks,
and stadiums.
100% High Solids AS6500 System. Extra heavy-duty, highly chemical-resistant, two-component,
low-VOC epoxy for extreme wear from vehicle and equipment traffic. Low odor formula makes
it perfect for indoor use in food processing and health environments.

RUST-O-THANE® 9400 System. A chemically converted polyurethane finish featuring exceptional
weather resistance, gloss retention, and abrasion resistance. This coating is resistant to a wide

Low-VOC, High Solids 9700 System. Thin film application for an extremely durable, highly aesthetic
finish. Ideal for vehicles and transportation equipment.
Urethane Mastic 9800 System. For application direct-to-rust or prepared metal surfaces in mild to
moderate environments. Ideal for heavy industrial surfaces like tanks and towers.

Note: Long exposure to strong inorganic acids may discolor leaded 9400 finishes. This discoloration may be eliminated by applying a coat of 9410 Clear over the leaded finish.

Surfaces subject to occasional spillage and fumes
which are diluted, evaporated, or cleaned within 24 hours.

Surfaces are subjected to frequent and repeated
spillage and constant exposure to the chemical for
periods extending beyond 24 hours. Spills and
leaks are continuous and not diluted or cleaned
under this condition.

- Immersion
Surfaces are exposed to this chemical for periods
of several days or more on a continuous basis, as
