Flyer Enterprises Reaches
Out to the Surrounding Community
Flyer Enterprises divisions
focused on community outreach this semester, collaborating with organizations from
Habitat for Humanity to the
Boys and Girls Club to UD
organizations.
In addition to ArtStreet
Café Takeovers, Café customers could make get well cards
to send to Dayton Children’s
Hospital patients during the
month of November, Morgan
Whitely, ArtStreet Café director of human resources, said.
192 cards were made during
the month. ArtStreet Café employees have also volunteered
at Habitat for Humanity and
Dayton Metroparks. The Blend
and Blend Express continued the Rudy’s Roast scholarship fund donation, where 5
percent of the profits from Rudy’s Roast go to a scholarship
for a UD rising senior, Danielle
Phillips, director of marketing
for the coffee divisions, said.
Dining Services Joint Ventures divisions have also been
hard at work in the community. The Chill teamed up with
the K12 Art Gallery in downtown Dayton. Employees made
sample projects, organized
craft supplies, and worked with
the kids in art classes. They are
planning on continuing this
project into the next semester,
said Madeline Fox, director of
human resources for the Chill.
In addition, The Galley is selling t-shirts to raise funds for St.
Jude’s hospital as part of their
Galley Gives Back program.
So far, they raised about $400,
Courtney Monaco, director
of human resources at the
Galley, said.
Flyer Spirit is hosting Flyer
Feedback Shows at Flanagan’s
Pub and a Coaches Show once
a month at various Daytonarea Buffalo Wild Wings. “The
goal is to connect with the
Dayton community and get
more involved with the basket-
ball team,” Meredith Daniels,
Flyer
Spirit
director
of
operations, said.
FE Catering and Stuart’s
Landing plan to increase their
community involvement next
semester. FE Catering will be
working with the Boys and
Girls Club’s Junior Achievement program and the Kids
Café, said Ashlee Anderson, FE
Catering director of human resources. Stuart’s Landing will
focus on collaborating with the
Humane Society, Sam Costa,
director of human resources
for Stuart’s Landing, said.
Thanks to the Community
Outreach Coordinators and FE
employees for the hard work
and generosity put towards the
Dayton community!

ArtStreet Café Takeovers Draw New Customers
ArtStreet Café
Takeovers
have
increased profits,
brought in new
customers,
and
helped UD student
organizations.
While ASC Takeovers existed in the
past, “They were
much more random and had very
little frequency,”
Sarah
Hemler,
director of marketing for the Café,
said.
Hemler’s
goal was to have
Takeover Tuesdays,
where only Tuesday nights would
be for Takeovers.
That goal was not
only reached but exceeded, and
the Café will have at least 30 Takeovers by the end of the semester.
Sara Jarvis, ASC’s marketing
outreach coordinator, has been
key to increasing frequency and
regularity of the Takeovers by
managing the booking of events.
Jarvis reached out to organization
presidents a couple times during
the beginning of the semester,
and as organizations started hosting successful takeovers, the word
spread and more organizations
started to contact her.
Organizations can contact
Jarvis at [email protected]
to get involved. The Takeovers
last from 7 to 9 p.m., and 15 percent of the sales are donated to
the organization. While ArtStreet
Café promotes the takeovers on
social media, it is primarily the
responsibility of the organization
to spread the word.
“We’ve had great success this
semester with the Takeovers, and
I hope word of mouth continues
to spread so we have as much
success from new organizations
next semester,” Jarvis said.
LDP II Class Gives FE Employees Unique Opportunity
Looking for a chance to
meet FE employees and
managers,
develop
your
leadership skills, and prepare yourself for leadership
positions within FE? The LDP II
class might be the perfect
opportunity.
The Leadership Development Program course was
started in 2006 by former
CEO Adam Buckman. After a short break in the class
and collaboration with Janet Leonard, Megan Arko,
president
of
corporate
development, re-established
the class this fall “in order to
grow leadership development
opportunities for FE employees,” Arko said.
The class is a section of
BAI 151 and is open to all FE
employees. It focuses on the
application of leadership
skills, and the qualities and
characteristics that effective
leaders utilize in various situations. LDP II relates realworld leadership concepts to
the situations and decisionmaking that Flyer Enterprises
employees experience every
day.
Clare Georges, director of
merchandise for Flyer Spirit
and an LDP II student said,
“The course helps you learn
more about FE as a whole
and the skills necessary to
further develop our business
and leadership knowledge. It
gives students the opportunity to engage in discussion
about real world situations,
and analyze real world cases.
It also helps reevaluate not
only our divisions, but ourselves.”
Letter From
the CEO:
Jeff Firestone
With December already
upon us, Flyer Enterprises is
gearing up for another transition season that will be full
of new ideas and learning experiences, and will conclude
with a bright future for the
company.
We’ve been working on a
variety of promotional tools
to expose FE to a wider audience. We created a FE promotional video, which will be
on YouTube, and we will be
mailing the 2010-11 Annual
Report to Fortune 100 companies. On that note, please
look over the annual report
if you haven’t already! Additionally, we’ve redone our
Facebook page, so make sure
to “like” the new page!
The Flyer Enterprises
Alumni Association (FEAA)
is coming together very nicely.
We recently appointed “Class
Presidents” and are currently
working with alumni to set up
various activities to build the
relationship and collaboration opportunities between
current and past FE employees.
We are having an incredible
year, and it’s important to continue working as hard as possible to improve even more.
As always, please tell someone
if you’re interested in getting
more involved and we will
work to make that happen.
Thank you all for your continued commitment to Flyer
Enterprises, and happy holidays!
