Two soldiers of the same Yugoslav People’s Army (JNAJugoslovenska Narodna Armija): the first one during rather difficult
years of late 1940s and early 1950s, the second one during the late
1960s. Honourable Ladies and Gentlemen, among them who may

5. A FEW STORIES ABOUT ORDINARY MACEDONIANS
AND TURKS
 The fortress on top of the hill is the remaining of the fortress
capital city of the short-lived Second Macedonian Empire (9691018) founded by Tzar Samuel (976-1014), whose crown was
blessed by Pope Gregory V, and who was at permanent war
with Byzantium Empire (which claimed all of the Ancient
Macedonian Empire as before the Roman Empire did too).
More impressive to notice are the following facts of our
cultural history. St. Clement Ohridski, Archbishop and
father-creator of Cyrilic Alphabet, on the grounds of
Hellenic alphabet, as well as of Old-Slavonic language, had
founded in the 9th Century A.D. the Ohridean School of Letters and
25
Theology in Plaoshnik Church, right beneath the fortress city.

 This was a kind of high school at the time when in Europe no
university or a school alike existed outside Roma in the Vatican.
Under his guidance more than 3000 pupils have been educated
in Cyrilic Alphabet and Old Slavonic, based on a Macedonian
dialect around Sallonica, and then send to preach Jesus Christ’s
teaching to all Slavic nations of that time. Contemporary
Russian alphabet and language are the closest ones to that of St.
Clemant’s. Contemporary Russian alphabet and language are

to conduct both physician’s practice and research studies over the
whole of the Balkans. Thus the corner of Macedonia in the South
West, bordering Albania, indeed had been a cradle of culture and
knowledge hence Byzantium Empire invaded it over and over
again in order to hold it within its frontiers until it finally
collapsed to Ottoman’s Conquest in the year 1371, within Ottoman
Empire .
