Before Henry Hudson sailed in 1609, the land was home to many native
Americans.
Many Europeans who settled here Came from many nations, there were many
religious wars going on in the 1500 and 1600s.
When 30 families arrived in North America in 1624, they did not take an interest
in agriculture, focused more on fur trade
Diverse group-French, Irish, English,Scots, Germans, Italians, Jews, Groats, and
Scandinavians
Most of the people that traveled to the New Netherlands were single males.
Others were from Africa and they were used as slaves, some were later freed.

The New Netherlands was a colony formed by the Dutch, in current New York,
New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
Several of the original cities are still in use today.
Albany, New York was originally called, Beverwijck, and was the center for fur
trades.

Once the New Netherlands was founded people
moved over there because there wasn’t any
religious or political persecution, as there was in
Europe.
They also wanted to experience better
opportunities and to make money for themselves
and their families.
They also fled to The New Netherlands to become
involved in the fur trade or owning their own land
Some of the settlers that landed there took up
becoming soldiers, officials, or employees of the
Dutch West India Company.

The New Netherlands was established from 1609 until 1664.
Although they only controlled the Hudson River Valley for a short period of time,
they still developed trading posts, towns, and forts up and down the Hudson
River.
In 1673, there was a short interruption of English rule when
the Netherlands temporary regained the settlement.

Originating in The Netherlands, the Dutch quickly formed a colony across
the ocean in the Americas.
Albany, New York, in the north to Delaware in the south and parts of what
are now the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Connecticut, and Delaware.
They only controlled the Hudson River from about 1609-1624.During that
time they discovered a series of trading posts, forts, and towns up and down
the Hudson River, which laid groundwork for cities that are still exist today.
