Purpose
ReportingtothePolicyManager,thePolicyOfficerwillberesponsibleforprogressing
externalscientificandhighereducationpolicyactivitiesfortheSociety.Theywillalsobe
responsibleforpromotingsciencepolicyissuesandengagementtomembersoftheSociety.
Duties
•
ProvidekeysupporttoPolicyManagertoachievethepolicyobjectivessetoutinthe
Society’sstrategicplan.
•
Leadonidentifyingpolicydevelopmentsrelevanttomicrobiology.
•
EnsureSocietyaudiencesareawareofrelevantpolicydevelopmentsbycontributing
totheSociety’snewsletter,blog,quarterlymagazineMicrobiologyToday,andsocial
media.
•
Interpretandassimilatethefindingsfromresearchtoformulateevidence-basedand
solutionfocusedpolicyforGovernmentandotherpolicy-makers.
•
Produceproactiveandreactivebackgroundbriefingsonrelevantpolicyissuesfor
opinionformers,decisionmakersandparliamentarians.
•
Identifypolicyconsultationsanddraftresponsedocuments,assimilatingevidence
fromrelevantexperts.
•
Networkwithscientists,policyofficersandotherstakeholdersfromrelevant
organisations.
•
Organiseeventswhichsupportthedeliveryofthepolicyobjectivessetoutinthe
Society’sstrategicplan.
•
RepresenttheSocietyatexternaleventsandmeetingsincludingparliamentary
receptions,andconferences.
•
AssistwithgeneraladministrationasrequiredbythePolicyManager.

Essential:
• Biosciencesdegree(orequivalent).

Relevantexperienceofworkinginsciencepolicyorarelatedarea.
