shipment to Abu Dhabi.
It is better to plan early to make sure you have all the necessary
documentation for air travel, export and import to and from your home
country, and import and export into and out of Abu Dhabi.
This short document
will explain what
you will have to do
to ship to the
United Arab Emirates.

What information do I need to prepare?
Weight and Dimensions
The first thing is to estimate, as best you can, the weight and dimensions of the
shipment including any packaging. You will need width, length and height in
centimetres and weight in kilograms.
Dates to fly
You then decide on the dates you would like the shipment to fly. When planning
this, make sure you leave enough time to allow for customs clearance in both
your own country and in Abu Dhabi.
You may like your shipments to fly on the same flights as you are travelling on.
This may be possible in most countries.
Please be aware that the United States of America imposes strict rules around
who is able to fly cargo on a passenger aircraft. You should seek advice from a
freight forwarder or the Transportation Security Administration.

Many lithium batteries are not allowed to fly on aircraft. This table will give you

packing instruction 966, Batteries packed with equipment and Batteries
contained in equipment, are still allowed.

Documentation
You will be asked for certain documentation by the freight forwarder. This
will include your passport, packing list and invoice. The freight forwarder will
advise of any other documentation that is required.
Then what do I do?
You need to choose a freight forwarder who can make the booking with the
Etihad Cargo Sales Agent. We have provided you with a list of possible freight
forwarders at the end of this document.
The freight forwarder will:
1. Complete the necessary documentation including any dangerous goods
declarations (batteries, lasers, etc)
2. Produce the air waybill, which is the travel document for the cargo (much
like a passenger ticket)
3. Confirm the charges for the air freight, airport handling and any customs
charges etc.
4. Inform you of the date to deliver/collect your shipment.
5. Deliver the shipment to the airport’s cargo terminal and Etihad Cargo’s
handling agent.
A freight forwarder will charge for these services, and you should agree all
charges with them before making the booking.

What happens then?
When your cargo arrives in Abu Dhabi, you will need a freight forwarder to
clear customs and ensure the correct import documentation is completed and
handed to you. Without this documentation, you may find exporting out of
the United Arab Emirates very difficult.
The freight forwarder from your home country can advise you of a freight
forwarder in Abu Dhabi that can do this for you. We also have also provided
the names of three freight forwarders in Abu Dhabi.
You can arrange with the agent to have the cargo delivered to the venue, if
you wish.
After the event, how do I return the shipment back to my home or another
country?
The process is very similar from your home country.
First, select the agent, which could well be the agent you used to import the
shipment.
Inform them of the weight and dimensions and the flights upon which you
would like the shipment to be transported. The freight forwarder will then
arrange the shipment to fly on Etihad Cargo.
In your home country, you could also use the same freight forwarder you used
for the export of your shipment, to take care of the import formalities.
All freight forwarders will charge for the services they provide including
airfreight, airport handling and customs charges etc.

How do I know my shipment will arrive on time and be handled with care?
Etihad Cargo offers you three different products – Vulnerable, FastTrack or
General Cargo. Your freight forwarder will help you choose the right product for
you. The table below will also help you decide which is the most suitable.

How much will this cost?
Once you decide which product is right for you, the freight forwarder will advise
you of the price for the airfreight and any associated surcharges such as fuel
and security etc.
Your freight forwarder will also advise you of any airport handling and customs
charges, along with any service charges from the freight forwarder.
How much am I insured against damage whilst in transit?
General Terms and Conditions provided on the air waybill cover the liabilities of
the airlines in the event of damage or loss. We strongly recommend you take
out your own insurance to cover your charges, along with any service charges
from the freight forwarder.
What do I do if I have questions?
Just speak to your freight forwarder as early as possible. This will make sure
that you have enough time for your shipment to arrive in Abu Dhabi for the
competition.
