2.3
The Workshop agreed to the following Conclusions:
1) the importance of data collection and sharing among industry stakeholders;
2) the need to improve reporting culture;
3) the need to raise the awareness of Regulators and Aerodrome Operators about
existing standards and best practices related to Wilde life and FOD;
4) the importance of collaboration and communication among operators, ATCs,
Aerodromes and CAAs (including local authorities) to detect hazards and
mitigate Wildlife/ FOD risks;
5) technology is a great tool to be used, to the maximum possible, for Wildlife/FOD
control, but it’s not the only solution;
6) Wildlife/FOD programme should be developed based on the risk assessment
conducted within the framework of aerodrome SMS;
7) roles and responsibilities should be clearly defined in the Wildlife/FOD
programme, so that Regulators set the requirements while Aerodromes Operators
and ATCs implement the programme;
8) in accordance with ICAO Doc 9774, Wildlife Hazard Management should be one
of the Aerodrome Certification requirements; accordingly, a WHMP should be
developed and kept up-to-date; and
9) the follow up of the Wildlife/FOD programme implementation should be part of
the Runway Safety Team (RST) duties.
2.4
The Workshop was provided with closing remarks by Mr. M. Smaoui who thanked
Egypt, IATA and the speakers for making the Workshop successful. The Participants appreciated the
role of ICAO and IATA in organizing the Workshop and also appreciated the participation from
DAA, FAA, and Embraer which enriched the Workshop through exposure to other Regions
experience.
3.
CONCLUSION
3.1
The participants thanked ICAO and IATA for organising the Workshop and Egypt
for the hosting and excellent hospitality.
3.2
All the materials presented during the Workshop have been posted on the ICAO MID
website: http://www.icao.int/mid/.
