Dress Code
Appropriate dress code for each event is indicated in the itinerary by a
(D) for dress or (C) for casual.
Dress (D) : Kansas boys: suits and ties, dress slacks/sport coat and tie,
dress shoes. Kansas girls: dresses, skirt outfits, pant outfits, low heels or
dress flats. No high heels. No flip-flops. Hawaii students: Aloha-wear.
Dress slippers are permissible.
Casual (C) : Nice walking shorts (no short-shorts or spandex) and jeans.
T-shirts are provided. Appropriate shirts (no bare midriffs, halters, tube
tops, cropped tops, see-through tops or tank tops that allow bra straps
to show). A general rule is if you can’t wear it at school, you can’t wear
it on tour.
Shoes: Tennis shoes or good walking shoes are mandatory. You will
do a lot of walking; remember, D.C. is not a good place to break in new
shoes or to wear flimsy shoes that will give you blisters. Select shoes
with good arch support. Ladies, leave the high heels at home!
Jewelry: Keep to a minimum. We’ll be going through security checks
at nearly every location and excess jewelry can set off metal detectors.
Keep all valuables at home.
Jacket: It can get chilly on the cruise and it often rains in D.C., so pack
a light-weight jacket, sweater, sweatshirt, rain coat, hoodie or poncho.
Name Badges: Unless otherwise directed, you are required to wear
your name badge at all times during the tour.

Tour Rules
Rules
Our delegation has created a favorable reputation because of the rules we
maintain and enforce. These rules are to assure you have a great time, see
a lot of interesting things and safely participate in fun activities. If you are
uncertain about the meaning of a rule, ask a chaperone. Infraction of the
following rules will be considered cause for terminating your participation in
the tour. You will be sent home at your family’s personal expense.
CELL PHONES AND MUSIC DEVICES:
The object of this trip is for you to interact with the other delegates, not
to isolate yourself with your music or your phone. However, if your phone
is your camera you are more than welcome to use it. If you do use social
media, please remember to tag any posts with #YTDC.
CURFEW: Curfew times are listed in this program and must be strictly
followed. Be courteous because there are other travelers not with our tour
staying in the same hotel.
DRESS: Be aware of and follow the proper dress for the various activities.
See page 9. If uncertain, ask a chaperone. T-shirts will be provided at check in.
HOTEL ROOMS: You will share a room with other youth. Be courteous
and cooperative. Visitation in rooms between boys and girls is not permitted.
No visitation to another room after curfew. Do not leave money or valuables
in your hotel room. Leave all valuables at home.
ILLNESS: If you become ill during the trip, tell your chaperone
immediately. Nurses are available 24 hours a day at the hotel in D.C.
14
LOST: If you fail to make appropriate connections with our group, find and
stay in a public area where there are a lot of other people. Emergency contact
numbers are printed in this program on pages 2 and 12.
LUGGAGE: You are responsible for carrying your own luggage. Students
are restricted to ONE large bag and ONE carry-on. Each piece of luggage
must weigh less than 50 lbs. and the outside dimensions when added
together (length + height + width) may not exceed 62 inches or the airline
will charge you an overweight or oversize luggage fee. You are responsible
for any overweight ($75 each way for each piece 51-100 lbs) or oversize ($75
each way for each piece with dimensions larger than 62 inches) luggage fees.
PROHIBITED ITEMS: Tobacco products, recreational drugs, and
alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Laser pointers and cigarette lighters are
banned.
SAFETY: Your safety is our primary concern. Always stay in a group (no
less than three). You may not leave your hotel room after curfew. Security is
tight at the hotel and at many of the places we will visit, so be careful of your
actions and your words. Be courteous of others, however be cautious around
people whom you do not know. Avoid allowing those who are not with our
group to strike up a conversation with you.
TOURING: You are required to participate in the entire tour. You may not
leave the group at any time, unless prior written permission and arrangements
have been approved by your parents, your sponsoring cooperative and the
youth tour director. Be punctual on departure and returning times, meal
functions and other activities. The bus will wait for five minutes during
touring activities. Listen carefully for the location of the bus and the times of
departures.
