The Shade Project is a 501c3 non-profit committed to skin cancer prevention through education, outreach and
building shade structures in areas where where children play. The Shade Project is hosting their annual “BOO TO DO”
Halloween Fundraising Gala in an effort to bring more SHADE to Texas schools!

!According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, there are over 3.5 million cases of skin cancer diagnosed annually in
!the US. There are more cases of skin cancer than breast, colon and lung cancer combined.Melanoma, the most
of skin cancers, only accounts for about 4 percent of all skin cancer cases, however, it causes about 79
!deadly
percent of skin cancer deaths.
In Texas, the odds of getting skin cancer are increased. One in three Texans will develop some form of skin
cancer. Texas ranks third in the nation for malignant melanoma.

The Shade Project is prevention in ACTION. Whether it's sunblock at events, educational materials at
schools, or actual shade structures over play areas, The Shade Project is making a difference for children and
families. The Shade Project funded two school grants in 2014, JL Long Middle School in Dallas and Covenant
Academy in Kerrville. The grant for Texas schools will reopen in October for new applications and winners will
be announced in May 2015.
