Club Quidditch at Marquette Constitution Preamble We the members of the Marquette University Club Quidditch Team, and subscribing to the regulations and policies of Marquette University, establish this constitution to govern the matters within our organization. ARTICLE I Organization’s Name and Badge This constitution establishes Club Quidditch at Marquette will be the official name used to refer to this organization both in official and unofficial matters and documentation. The badge is to look like the following and to be placed on our uniforms for years to come. Section 1: ARTICLE II Purpose The primary goal of Club Quidditch at Marquette is to provide group participation and build teamwork skills towards directed physical activity. The organization will promote interest in the developing sport of Quidditch, and allow students to continue their desired growth and knowledge in the fantastical world created by J.K. Rowling. Section 1: Section 2: ARTICLE III Membership Regular membership in this organization shall be open to any full‐ time Marquette University Undergraduate students. Students must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA to participate. This will be instituted as a check to maintain that the club does not interfere with the student’s academics. Section 3: Section 4: Section 5: Section 6: Section 1: Section 2: Associate membership in this organization shall be open to any part‐ time student, graduate student, professional student, faculty member, staff member, or administrator at Marquette University. Non‐discrimination Clause. Consistent with all applicable federal and state laws and University policies, this Organization and its subordinate bodies and officers shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, disability, veteran’s status, or in its selection of members, officers, educational programs, or activities. All members must subscribe to the ideals of the organization, pay the required dues, contribute and participate in team functions and fund raisers, maintain an attitude, which is conductive to the development of the team, and represent Marquette in an appropriate and responsible manner. Dues will be set in place at the end of each year for the following school year. Due to the large amounts of activities that usually happen in the fall, dues may be paid/recommended to be paid at the start of every school year. The dues are to cover the monetary things that the club needs. This includes: shoes, shorts, jerseys, warm‐ups, broom, and the patch that goes on the uniform. ARTICLE IV Officers There will be 5 positions on the Club Quidditch at Marquette E‐Board. Those positions are as follows: a. President b. Vice President c. Treasurer d. Historian e. Public Relations and Travel Concierge (PR&TC) The election of these members will take place at two different times. The elections of President, Vice President, and Historian are to be held at the end of the school year in April. The elections of Treasurer and PR and Travel Concierge are to be held the week before spring break of the current school year. a. This has been created to allow a grace period‐a time in which the students taking over positions of Treasurer and PR&TC will be able to fully gain an understanding of the organizations time commitment and specialization associated with the move. b. The Treasurer and PR&TC will take office as “assistant treasurer” and “assistant PR&TC” at the time of elections Club Quidditch at Marquette Page 2 of 5
and then will have their titles change to “treasurer” and “PR&TC” following the later election. c. By running for positions Treasurer and PR&TC, you do not eliminate yourself from contention later in the semester for positions President, Vice President, or Historian. Section 3: Section 4: Section 5: The elected positions shall take office at the first meeting in the month of April and will serve for a full calendar year. a. Elections are held in any week in April, but the transition will occur at the start of May. Role of the officers is to include the following: a. President‐ The president shall act as the head figure when dealing with all matters of the International Quidditch Association (IQA). Beyond that, the President will seek out and contact all members of the IQA and surrounding organizations to put together the teams schedule for the full year. All scheduling and tournament bids should be placed through the president. The president will also run tryouts if numbers indicate that necessary. The president must be a junior. This allows a transition period for the club as well. The president is responsible for co‐signing checks. b. Vice President‐ The vice president shall act as the head to the campus organization as a whole. He or she will oversee meetings, practice time and time to prepare for matches. c. Treasurer‐ The treasurer keeps the dues and accurate books of how much money is available for travel and other expenses that the organization might need to pay for or gain throughout the year. The treasurer is also responsible for co‐signing any checks with the president. d. Historian‐ The historian is responsible for keeping the IQA website and logs up to date. This position is also responsible for keeping accurate rosters of members/players, a schedule of what the team has done for the year as well as stats, and minutes from meetings that they may have. e. PR &TC‐ The public relations and travel concierge is responsible for recruiting members and getting publicity out to the general campus body. They are also responsible for planning how to travel to matches and booking those reservations. No elected official may be on University or academic probation at the time of election or any time during his or her term. Section 1: Section 2: ARTICLE V Removal and Replacement of Officers Removal of Officers a. The removal of an officer requires a 2/3 vote of a quorum following the notification of the officer in question. Such notification shall be provided in writing no less than seven working days prior to the vote. Replacement of Officers a. At any time the president is unable to continue or complete their responsibilities, the vice president will assume the position. b. All other executive board positions found to be vacant shall be filled by election immediately by vote of the current body present. ARTICLE VI Meetings and Committees Section 1: Section 2: Section 3: Meetings a. Meetings will be scheduled at a monthly interval, and can be called more frequently by an e‐board member if deemed necessary. b. The team will meet the day before a scheduled game, invitational, our tournament no matter if it is home or away. Quorum a. Quorum will be set at 50% of active, participating members at the time b. Any time something must be voted on, quorum must be met before the vote is made. This is defined as 50%+1 person of active, participating members of the organization. Committees and smaller subsections under e‐board members may be formed for the advancement and development of the organization as a whole. ARTICLE VII Affiliation Club Quidditch at Marquette will follow all the rules and regulations of the International Quidditch Association (IQA), the governing body to the college and high school chapters of Quidditch. The org will also follow and use the IQA’s rulebook as a supplement to the Marquette organization rules and regulations. time. . In instances of conflict, this constitution and/or rules, regulations or policies of Marquette University shall take precedence over the constitution of the International Quidditch Association. ARTICLE VIII Finances Section 1: Club Quidditch at Marquette will be allowed to raise money through Marquette sanctioned fundraising events and sales. Section 2: All money shall be spent properly to further the purpose of the organization in its travels, equipment, dues, etc. ARTICLE IX Amendments Section 1: All amendments to this constitution require notice of one week prior to being discussed and voted upon. Section 2: All amendments require a 2/3 vote of a quorum for adoption. Section 3: Amendments become effective only after proposal by both the Office of Student Development and the Student Senate of the Marquette University Student Government (MUSG).
