The week of May 1 st - May 5th , the teachers in the San
Mateo Foster City School District will be participating in
an activity called Work to Rule.
What does "Work to Rule" mean?
• It means SMETA members will work only the hours for which they are paid the time required by our contract. Normally, members put in many
additional unpaid hours in the cycle of planning, preparing, correcting,
recording, and assessing student learning; on committees, in meetings
and training; and in extra activities that directly benefit students and
parents.
• This week your child will not be assigned any homework as San Mateo
Foster City educators have taken on a Work to Rule status. This means
that we will only be available during our contracted hours and additional
work that we often do. outside of this time may not be completed. This
includes em ails, phone calls, planning, grading and parent conferences.
• We appreciate your understanding and support during this time. We also
encourage you to visit the SMETA website at http://www.smeta.org/ to
learn more about our mission.
• During this week we would like your show of support and understanding
that this is an activity we feel is needed to demonstrate all that teachers
do during our work day and we deserve to have contract settlement
immediately.
