summer and autumn
• We also had a meeting about mental health. People
from different ethnic groups came and met people
from the NHS and other services.
• We opened our new Sexual Health clinic in
Aldershot.

Western Community Hospital in Southampton.
Neuro-rehabilitation means we help people with
problems with their nervous system. People came

• We supported the Stoptober campaign to help
people stop smoking.
• Some of our staff learnt more about lung diseases
and asthma.

We are the best of the best!
We won 2 awards at the Best of Health Awards in
October.
• The Brooker Ward team at The Limes won the
award for Mental Health Team of the Year.
• Gill Calvert suggested the team for the award. The
team looked after Gill’s husband, Tony, when he was
ill with dementia. Sadly, he died after a stroke.
• Gill said “They cared for Tony in a kind,
professional and loving way. They were available,
night and day. They listened and took notice of what
we said. They answered all our questions. They made
a very difficult time as easy as it could be.”
• Pauline Taylor won the award for Community
Worker of the Year.
• Kim Taylor suggested Pauline for the award. Kim’s
daughter, Mia, was born with a rare illness. Pauline
helped Kim and her family. Sadly, Mia died aged 9
weeks and a day.
• Kim said “Pauline was amazing. She always
listened to us. She helped us at the hospital.
She arranged for us to stay with Mia. Our other
children even call her Auntie Pauline.”

done great work for the Trust.

The NHS today
The way the NHS is organised changed in April 2013.
• The Department of Health is in charge of health care
and social care.
• The Department of Health gives money to the Clinical
Commissioning Groups and NHS England to pay for
health care.
• The Clinical Commissioning Groups decide who provides
health care. They use the money from the Department of
Health to buy health care from groups like the NHS.
• NHS England keeps an eye on the Clinical Commissioning
Groups to improve people’s health in England. NHS
England buys special care and arranges GP services.
• Public Health England is a group in the Department of
Health. It leads and supports health decisions.
• Health and Wellbeing Boards are a way for lots of
health groups to discuss how to provide health care.
• Healthwatch is a group which makes sure that we listen
to the users of health care. They support local people
when they have a complaint.
