District Athletics
Last Friday, 84 students from Years 4, 5 and 6 competed in the District Athletics competition at Ross
Reserve. Our representatives pitted themselves
against nine other neighbouring school students.
During this competition, children are permitted to
compete in a maximum of two individual events and
possibly one relay event if they are selected.
Children who placed 1st or 2nd in their competition
event will progress through to the Divisional Athletics. These Divisional Athletic competitions are
made up of all primary schools from the Dandenong,
Springvale and Noble Park areas.
At Monday’s Assembly, Mr Malone announced that
Dandenong North had placed first overall in the ten
school competition. He also commented that this
year there was stronger competition from the other
schools, than in previous years. He contributes this
to neighbouring schools, who are now practising
more, training students and generally taking this
event more seriously than in previous years.
Dandenong North had a fabulous Athletics meet
with over half of the competing students receiving a
ribbon for placing in the top three in at least one of

events they entered. A fantastic effort!
the events they competed in!
35 children from Dandenong North will now be
heading to the Divisional Athletics which will be
held on Friday 17th October. Good luck to all of
the children who will be competing at this meet!
Thank you to Mr Malone for all of the extra work
he does, training the children in his discretionary
time. He always encourages each child to strive
for their personal best - which makes Dandenong
North a highly competitive school.
Eyes, Ears, Heart & Mind Award
At Monday’s Assembly Mrs Ferguson was awarded
an Eyes, Ears, Heart and Mind award by five of her
students. This was particularly special to Mrs Ferguson, as she will be leaving us at the end of this term to
go on maternity leave. Mrs Ferguson is expecting
twins in early October! Read below what the children
had to say about Mrs Ferguson at Monday’s Assembly:
Eyes: Mrs. Ferguson has eyes that are as powerful as
an eagle’s eye. She can somehow zoom in and out
with extra vision and easily see if we are doing the
right thing or the wrong thing.
Ears: Mrs. Ferguson has ears that can even sense a
whisper. She can hear easily when someone talks
about something that isn’t about a topic. Even if they
whisper as quite as a mouse.
Heart: Mrs. Ferguson has a smiling heart which is
filled with kindness and pure gold. She has a
unique heart that no other teacher has which is
bursting with positive words.
Mind: Mrs. Ferguson has a very special and
unique mind that thinks differently from other
teachers. She prepares activities that are interesting, creative and fun at the same time.

Book Fair 2014
Thank you to all of those children and parents
who came to the 2014 Garden Book Fair, it was
an amazing success! We raised over $1000
worth of books that will soon be catalogued,
covered and ready to go into the library for
children to borrow.
The winners of the
Book Fair raffle prizes
were presented at
Monday’s school assembly. Congratulations to:
The children
particularly
enjoyed the
visit from
Geronimo
Stilton during the
Book Fair
on Monday
1st September. He had just come back from
Mouse Everest and the Great Cheese Pyramids.
They were all very excited to see him and
asked him plenty of questions about his books.
Geronimo loves to travel the world and get new
ideas for his upcoming books. I think the children have inspired him to write his next big
story!!!

Years 5 & 6 Visit The MCG!
Over the course of Term Three, the Year 5 & 6
students have been exploring the Media and its
role - especially at large sporting events like the
Commonwealth Games.
With this as the focus, a visit to the MCG was a
fantastic way to end the unit for all.
Students were involved in a tour of the MCG
which took them into the change rooms, media
centres, The Long Room, through the stands
and out onto the turf . Many children were so
excited by this opportunity that they frantically
picked up some grass as a memento to take
home!
The students also had the opportunity to view
the many artifacts in the National Sports Museum. This museum has many pieces that are donated by Olympians, athletes and sportspeople
across a variety of sports - from Horse racing
through to AFL.
Students also
participated in
the Game On
section of the
National
Sports Museum. This interactive section allowed
the children to
race bikes, shoot netballs, throw down the stumps
and take aim with an archers bow.
The children were extremely well behaved and had
a memorable time.
For all parents that wish to visit the MCG there is
an Open Day on Sunday 28th September. See the
MCG website for more details.
